Want Diversity in Leadership in Sioux Falls? Vote for TenHaken’s Opponent!

I often chuckle when I hear White, Christian, Republican Men talk about diversity;

“Representation matters,” TenHaken said. “So, as this community gets more diverse in a variety of different ways, people need to see leadership positions filled by people of all different backgrounds so they can aspire to the same thing.”

Five of the 12 people on his city executive team are either minority or female. TenHaken has directly hired four of those five individuals during his four years in office.

Ironically, I don’t think a single woman or minority has helped with Poops mayoral campaigns, except his wife. In fact his current campaign assistant used to be the Executive Director of the SD GOP.

What I find so ironic is that if you want to promote diversity in city leadership, you should vote for Paul’s opponent, an immigration attorney who is a Muslim female minority that has bi-racial children with her white husband. If anyone would promote diversity I think the choice is clear.

Paul’s talk about diversity is all smoke and mirrors. He knows his true supporters will NEVER vote for his opponent. In fact in the last election cycle when a minority was running for city council, the rumor was he got the door slammed in his face on several occasions. Paul has had several opportunities to promote minorities into leadership roles, and to his credit, he has, but NOT in key departments like public safety. The two fire chiefs and one police chief have all been white males and he has refused to do a national search only promoting from within leaving very little wiggle room for the diversification of these departments within their leadership. Poops had a great opportunity to find us a Police Chief with some diversity experience, but instead picked the guy with the best sideburns.

And let’s not forget his complete denial of the LGBTQ+ community existing in our city.

If you truly want diversity, don’t vote for Poops.

I learned everything I needed to know about her when she announced she was running. Black T shirt, white lettering. Hard pass.

As I mentioned above, SHOCKER, you are not voting for her. LMFAO!

We certainly do need women and minorities in public office. I assume you’ll be voting for Noem? I guess as long as you’re a minority and/or a woman, you deserve to be elected, right?

I agree L3wis, having a superstar woman Governor has been a blessing through all this Wuhan bullshit. According to Johns Hopkins today, everything Kristi did was exactly the right thing to do. So, Thank GOD for Kristi Noem!!!!

NT, you bring up a great point. Even if her name was Tanner and she was a white male, she is still a hundred times more qualified than Poops. Maybe that should be her new slogan, ‘Just as qualified as white males, yet better.’

“Candide!”

By “more qualified”, you mean “you don’t hate her yet”? You clearly haven’t had a mayor that is as smart as you. Ever.

Another political play before the election. Bring out the race card. Staff without purpose works. The city is not known for equal opportunity hiring. Especially the Parks Dept.. The ACLU is focused on Native Americans. They’ll eventually succumb to the rest of the racist environment. There’s grounds for civil rights actions. Both racial and constitutional.

The most surprising thing here is how much you bash PTH. He a giant RINO. You should love him. I get he is white, male and Christian, but he is still a RINO. TS is two of those three and you like her. She is also waaay more conservative then PTH. I wish we had a conservative Republican or even a conservative Democrat running.

NT, I think you know my main issue with any local politician is transparency, openness and integrity. They can be as dumb as a mud fence, as long as they are not corrupt. Mike and Paul are corrupt, not dumb. I heard the smartest people in town live in the NW district.

For me, I can only vote for someone who enforces the U.S and State Constitutions, while applying them in over seeing the management of the local government as per the wishes of the residents of Sioux Falls, that means, by our charter, ‘we’ want a constitutionalist.

#13 l3wis on 02.02.22 at 5:22 pm

You can’t be a constitutionalist who takes an oath and be corrupt at the same time.

#14 David Z for Mayor on 02.02.22 at 5:24 pm

First off, there are three candidates for mayor and not the two mentioned in this post about promoting diversity. Secondly, it is valuable to incorporate diverse people into government administration, but it is more important that city leaders actually care about diverse people. Hiring diverse people does not guarantee progressive diversity-enhancing policies. For example, a racially diverse police force can still unfairly target blacks for law enforcement. As another example, most of the early NAACP members were white.

Because I care about people — all people — I plan to promote diversity (more information coming later) and my campaign staff includes people of diverse backgrounds.

“I heard the smartest people in town live in the NW district.”

And there was sadness in Taupeville.

“Really???”, the image of PTH is quite amorphous, innit? Evades identification.
A massive RINO; big government, big spender sort of guy … but not recognized as such by the Republican party (mostly because the entire South Dakota Republican Party, esp the Sioux Falls contingent of “Chamber of Commerce Social Club-type of Republicans”) are much the same type of RINOs. There was that special talent of PTH as a digital spook which was of great utility to the grand royalty of South Dakota RINOs, Mike Rounds. So, PTH gains some party influence as a Handyman. Nice complement to Marty Jackley as The Party Fixer.

PTH is a Republican, not the most popular brand among the Woke crowd. Yet, as the Woke crowd draws and quarters Republicans, they seemingly don’t acknowledge the “white, Christian, male Republicanism” which is PTH. I’ll leave the analysis of this portion of the “PTH paradox”(TM) to VSG.

But isn’t a new chicken sandwich diversity?

#18 Further Fear & Loathing on 02.03.22 at 12:21 pm

Three tornadoes in one night, that’s not the Mayor’s fault, but what is, is that he allows planning/zoning and developers to build no basement slab homes in our town for the middle-class as the only answer to our housing crisis here. But then again, maybe some more stray dogs could help this situation:

there is plenty of diversity in city government. swedes, norwegians, germans, dutch, lutherans, catholics, etc.

Is the local Dutch Mafia known to be diversified, or merely in their investments?
