I have been hearing rumors for years from Minnehaha County officials (elected and non-elected) that other towns and cities were buying bus tickets and sending their homeless to Sioux Falls. During the meeting on Monday, this was confirmed by Kari Benz from the MC. She said while many other towns in SOUTH DAKOTA were sending them here to take care of them, they also come from Florida, Texas and California.

While it is disappointing we are getting people from other states, what is more disheartening is our fellow SD communities have decided to use Sioux Falls as a dumping ground for what they might consider undesirables. I would encourage MC to start sending these towns and counties a bill for providing the services. Other counties can’t use MC’s jail without paying a fee so why do they think they can just use our homeless services for free? The homeless doesn’t pay for these services, WE DO, the taxpayers of this community and county.

I have said to solve some of these issues, we are going to have to work with all parties and taxpayers. We spend millions each year in operating, bond payments and maintenance of our entertainment facilities (some of which sat completely empty for a year during Covid) but we don’t have any money to build another overnight shelter? Give me a break!

This is what happens when you have growth for growth sakes and throw gasoline on the fire of development with 20 year tax rebates (TIFs) and other incentives. The incentive needs to be in job training, affordable housing and wage increases. The developers, banksters and bondsters are fat enough, let them sleep under a bridge every once in awhile.

When are we going to start sending “Our Republicans” to other states? #MassiveBusLoadsFromSiouxFalls

Then AG Janklow started all of this with his “California Option”. A option given to those arrested for crimes in South Dakota, where their charges would be dropped if they moved to California. This was all in response to then Governor Jerry Brown being unwilling to send Dennis Banks back to South Dakota for prosecution during the height of the AIM movement in the mid-1970s.

( and Woodstock adds: “Say, didn’t Wild Bill mess with the usury laws and the rule against perpetuity in this state as well?”…. 🙂 )

  2. While I found it difficult to read what VSG put in writing, please use “an” instead of “a” before a vowel used in the next word…a real genius would know this. Funny you are acting like this is a Republican issue, and the answer is to bus them out. By the looks of our homeless, I would venture a guess they vote Demoncrat, and that is why they are poor and homeless….guaranteed votes keeping them down, THAT is genius.

  3. Oh, the intellectual chauvinist(s) is (are) back, huh? Can’t deal with the truth so you try to intimidate and dominate as a (no “a” ) grammar cop(s), huh?

Nationally, it’s the Republican governors who are busing people here and there. I think it’s a Republican problem or a Republican tactic I should say.

I live for the day, however, when Republicans start being more like Bob Dole again and less like Dick Nixon.

Plus, if Republicans were really into the sanctity of life, then they would help the immigrants instead of busing them on.

AND, do you know what keeps most of us down? Well, it’s major tax cuts for the rich. But do you know what lifts most people, however, well it’s things like limiting student debt for middle class students and parents.

( and Woodstock adds: “I thought the GOP was against busing?”…. (…”Oh, that’s right, only when they’re being bused into their neighborhoods”…. “Never mind”…. 😉 ))

  4. An, if bad spelling and grammar bother you, this is bad place to be. The blog owner fancies himself a writer but does not know the difference between then and than.

  5. The commenters also like to come on here and insult me without using their real names. They hate me so much they continue to comment and read the blog 🙂

  6. Their obsession with us proves our relevance (relevence? 😉 ). They’re like the guy who is jealous that a neighbor got a new car. So, they walk around the new car looking for a scratch to make them personally feel better.

( and Woodstock adds: “We should all sponsor a bunch of one way Uber rides for the homeless and the panhandlers to the 85th Street Walmart”…. 😉 ).

  7. Quite the contrary. I am one of the few that actually does use his own name. Are you trying to tell me that VSGs real name is Very Stable Genius? Quite obvious he’s neither a genius or stable. As far as why I keep coming back? Why do people look at fires and trainwrecks? They know they shouldn’t, but do anyway. The poor writing and VSG essentially being the only one that responds (under 5 or 6 aliases) are simply too comical to stay away. To be 100% honest, at this point, I keep coming back to see the latest “I’m permanently shutting down this blog” post.

  8. If I don’t like a song, I don’t keep playing it, or seeking it out. Oh, and what was it that Einstein, a true genius, said about insanity?

Wait a minute, is Steve suggesting he figured out that the

  11. Herb Jenson Mayor of Watertown in the 80’s was known for buying tickets to Omaha for homeless.

Let’s just get to the point. The Banquet and the Dudley are the attractions for the homeless. Socialism is a failure and these entities need to be closed.

MC receives monies from other counties/municipalities for use of the county jail FYI. This was a reason the city of Tea had at one point had been considered for building a new jail for Lincoln County.

  13. I know, that is why I mentioned in the above post;

“Other counties can’t use MC’s jail without paying a fee so why do they think they can just use our homeless services for free? “
