Mike Zitterich is running for central district city council. The election will either be next June or September. I also heard this will be a crowded race with the potential of 7 candidates running, which means a runoff.
I am filing this document today with the City Clerk Office. Mike Zitterich for Honest Government for the Central District. I will be updating my website in the near future to provide additional info.
I want to see from the City Council:
- Financial Transparency,
- Honest Government,
- I want to see more investigations done by the council of the government,
- I encourage a better dialogue/correspondence between city council and residents both during meetings, and outside the meetings,
- I see myself as the next Kermit Staggers, a strong opposing vote against large government bureaucracy’s, voices, more in line with residents,
- I want to see more planning and promoting of other Business Districts here in Sioux Falls ‘other than S.F.D.T’ – I want to urge other parts of the community to establish B.I.D organizations,
- I want to promote and push to change our T.I.F strategy, getting away from large projects to introducing smaller, single-family type projects 1 Block, 2 Blocks like the City of Sturgis,
- I want to promote, and help lead to establish city-wide Natural Wildlife, Nature, Historic Program that introduces policies to promote our awesome natural wildlife, nature parks, our history, and the idea of adding camping and lodging parks throughout the city within our Department of Parks and Recreation, one that promotes Family and Youth Outdoor Entertainment.
With your guidance, I would like input on how we could create a public office “Government Financial Transparency” to be made up of appointed members to audit and review ALL city departments, offices, agencies, all Nonprofits that take city funds, with the goal of trimming city expenses,, while using the savings to set aside and perhaps give back surpluses to the residents.
With your guidance, I would like input on how to move forward with recommending changes to our charter that accomplishes two things – I want the City Attorney to become a “elected member” of the Governing Board, no longer appointed by a mayor, and one that services a 4 year term (two terms), while changing the charter to create a “odd numbered council” with no less than 2 At-Large Chairs, and any number of District Chairs (5, 7, 9, etc), with the Mayor and City Attorney as the other “Elected At-Large Chairs”.
With your guidance, I would like input on the idea of creating an ordinance to make ALL “legal opinions” of the City Attorney Office to be public record, allowing residents to review them on the city website, just as the State Attorney General must do. This improves transparency, and hopefully urges the Attorney Office to be more accountable to the people, along with being elected.
I also support lowering the 2nd Penny Sales Tax from 1.00% down to 0.75% to give back to the residents the chance to keep as much money in their pockets, and I urge the City of Sioux Falls to set the example on taking less property tax revenue, thus leading the charge to give back to the property holders the ability to invest in their properties, encouraging more residents to donate to the city treasury, private funds that could be appropriated by the City Council for future community projects such as flower gardens, community watch advisory committees, to public infrastructure supported by the residents.
Mike Zitterich
I had a dream the other night that David Z. was our mayor, while Mike. Z. was on the council. AND, marijuana was legal, but it wasn’t taxed.
( and Woodstock adds: “Say, why does a guy’s last name have to start with a “Z” around here to get any attention, huh?”…. ;-( #WhiteT-ShirtZombies )
potential opponents should screenshot his social media now.
That’s why I’m not on Facebook, but my Christmas letters are pretty juicy.
Hopefully he will learn the proper use of “cause” and “because” in a sentence.
“Darn, for a minute there, I thought they finally found that stolen pink grill from Karl’s” …….:

Good for Mike!
“… create a public office ‘Government Financial Transparency’ to be made up of appointed members to audit and review … all Nonprofits that take city funds …”
If only to get a glimpse inside the labrynth of laundering City funds to the pockets of special people in this town through “support of nonprofit organizations” (and NGOs).
Word of advice to MLZ – do not accept any invitations to Charles Mix County, especially to hunt pheasants! It is Charles Mix Couny that the chamber cronies who run this state and Sioux Falls use to get rid of people who know too much (or seek to know too much).
Who will the local chamber crony Rockefeller “republicans” place to the ballot for this office?
And most certainly the local Dem party leaders have recruited a candidate for the Central District position on City Council.
Anybody else want to get rid of curbside garbage and recycling? My complaint – dog owners who dump their dog crap in cans set out for pickup. This afternoon I went to retrieve my recycling container and it had someone’s bagged dog poop in an otherwise empty container. Another neighbor said someone used a bag to pick up their dog’s poop and then dumped it bag free into the homeowner’s trash.
Ah that’s a hard no vote from me
Mike, what’s your position on e-bikes, especially on sidewalks?…. I mean, are you a true libertarian who believes monster trucks should be allowed on our sidewalks and trails, or do you believe there should be limitations? AND, as long as e-bikes are allowed on our trail system and sidewalks, then what about Mopeds, and if not, why not?
I believe there are to many regulations and restrictions on the people in this city. As for E-Bikes, I have never really taken a position on them to tell the truth. But it would come down to public safety of all those who use the trail. I am fine with allowing E-Bikes on the trail so long as we can ensure that everyone will respect each other. The Bike trail system is for everyone to enjoy, I would go as far as to invest in Lighting, and open up the trail system from 4 am in the morning to as late as 11 pm in the evening, allowing more people to utilize the trail for getting to and from their employment. The City Government is there to provide Public Infrastructure, Public Roads, Water-Sewer Systems, any such Public Service that allows the people to participate in “Commerce”. There should be very little rules as to restrict what the people can and cannot do, so long as no one is violating the rights of others. We also need to add camping and lodging to our public parks, opening up our city to travelers, tourists, campers that love our natural wildlife, nature, and recreation. This will not only enhance our parks and recreation, but also generate revenue that could then help provide other public services such as “After-School Activities, Daycare Services, and Local Taxidermy Museums. We need to tax the residents less, allowing them to invest in their own properties, let alone, we desperately need to find a way to better use our T.I.F program to help invest in smaller capital projects that encourage “Single Family Housing”. I like the idea of doing what the City of Spearfish has done, allowing for many smaller projects of $300,000 to $500,000 allowing for small neighborhoods to build single family housing, while improving their neighborhoods. But most important, ‘we’ to better hold our city government accountable to the people, we need better financial transparency, we need a DOGE type public office to inspect, review, audit, and investigate all Public Departments, Offices, Agencies, and all Non-Profits that take our public tax dollars.
