As you know, the council and mayor have to pick a new election date because our brain dead, barely on life support, clem, hillbilly, theocratic morons of a legislature decided they needed to f’ck with local control, and gerrymander an election. They really want cities to have their elections in June when mostly Republicans show up essentially gerrymandering a non-partisan election. They also know that most cities will pick the June date because their lazy ass public servants don’t want to stick around for a couple more months (like our mayor has been crying about for weeks). Also, June primaries are bad for voter turnout, mostly because only half of the constituents show up. So voter turnout would not be improved (their argument to move the election).
I took a poll of the council on this, and the results are NOT good. I will break you the news, the votes are just not there for a November election. I know some councilors are supporting a November election, but they have asked me to keep that to myself, which I will respect. Our mission is to convince at least 4 more councilors to support a November election and give good reasons why. You can CONTACT them HERE. Leave voicemails and emails telling them to support a November election. Time is of the essence, I think this will be on the agenda for the first meeting in May.
I think cities should have stand alone elections and if they promoted them properly they would be well attended. But when you have a Militant Closed Government Bozo running the city, the public is not only mis-informed, but simply NOT informed. Ignorant people only vote by accident.
You cannot really blame Republicans cause their voters are the only ones that show up on the June Primary. This pretty reflects the lazy-ness of the current S.D Democrat Party members for not focusing on their primaries. Democrats tend to follow their leadership and many times fail to actually primary any of their incumbents. This is not the fault of Republicans, the Republican party is more focused on it’s policies, its platform and include most of its membership in getting people involved. The Democrat party in recent years has failed their voters for the most part. There is NO gerrymandering at all. The Republicans host their primary election, the Democrats hold their primary election – in South Dakota, they are held on the same day, same election, same time. I do not buy this b.s that the Republican voters are canceling out the Democrats. As a elected precinct committee person of the Republicans I can safely say, ‘we’ are more focused in getting our voters involved. So why do Democrats fail to show up during their primaries? Mainly cause their party fails them, by NOT placing candidates on the ballot. IF, this leads to electing more “Conservative” members to the city council, I am all for it, as it will lead to much better candidates, and the “party” in general will campaign harder to change the dynamics of the City Council.

Could care less about the party of nobodies, independents can’t vote for Republicans, this is the problem with primaries, and the reason voter turnout out is low. If independents could vote in Republican primaries there wouldn’t be any extremists left in the party
But the Republicans already tell us who is going to be mayor or on the council. 😉
The Independents could in fact organize and form their own party, such as creating the Independent Statesman Party then they would be able to elect their own precinct committeemen and women per precinct, create their own platform, their own rules for the party, hold their own county meetings, and hold their own State Conventions to choose their choices for Governor, Lt Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Public School, Land, and Utilities Commissioner, Auditor, and Treasurer.
If this were to happen, then our State Primary Election every two years would become so much better. We would see 3 primaries in one election – Republican, Democrat, and Independent Statesman. Each party would vote to place their choices on a General Ballot come November.
Why are you attacking the so-called “no-bodies” who are elected within the party to meet in committee meetings? Do you not respect, or support the “republic”?
A republic is one where the PEOPLE get together, hold committees, organizing the voters together, to discuss public affairs of their State, County, School Boards, City Councils independently of the government itself. Do you not support this concept?
This is how our country was founded, as the people began to organize committee after committee, colony after colony, forming a Continental Association holding one large at-large committee to discuss public affairs. This allows this group of people to discuss public policy, while going out door-to-door speaking to and educating the voters preparing them for future elections.
Democrats and Independents seem to be mad at the republicans for doing the exact thing that those parties should have been doing all along. So do not be mad at the republican party, be mad at your own party’s.
Republicans have found a way to get their voters to show up, we have found a way to gain more voters, our voters actually show up to vote. We choose our candidates, our initiatives, YOU choose your candidates and your initiatives, and we then bring everyone together in a general election to vote on who has the better policies.
DONT EVER call my fellow Precinct Committee Persons “No-bodies” they are the ones that put in the blood, sweat, and effort in shaping future policy…
The reason I am an Indy as I would assume most indies are is because we don’t believe in political parties. They are a joke and ineffective.
Scott, you are correct on that point, if people can actually rally together have good conversations in respective decorum, I would support everyone meeting under one roof. What do you say a Joint Meeting between both Dems, Reps, and Independents to discuss public affairs?
I register as an R to vote in the primaries to try and keep the nut jobs from advancing to the general election.
