I have no comment, except at 64 you should know better;

Rick Knobe was pulled over by Sioux Falls police on September 17th. According to court documents, Knobe was cited for driving under the influence of marijuana, or a controlled substance. It happened on west 12th street at about 8 o’clock in the evening. Knobe, who is 64, was the youngest mayor of Sioux Falls, serving in that office.

30 Thoughts on “I guess Rick ain’t running for mayor, unless there is a Rastafarian Party

  1. just cal him puff daddy. i wonder if he will tell the listners what really happened, or will the old crusty republicans be unable to handle it?

  2. just call him puff daddy. i wonder if he will tell the listeners what really happened, or will the old folks be unable to handle it.

  3. Curious: What position has Knobe laid out on VPN on drug legalization?

  4. Hmmmm, doesn’t he usually treat Bob Newland as a buffoon for wanting pot legalized?

  5. I’m sure it was for medicinal purposes. Todd Ep is the best attorney Rick knows or can afford?

I wish I had the VPU transcripts from around the time Newland got busted doing the exact same thing and Knobe said he should have known better.
Old Bong Knobe is a fuckin hypocrite. Although, it’s not like he ran a stop sign and killed someone…. he should and will get a slap on the wrist and go on with his boring life.

  7. Yeah, I saw Todd was his lawyer. You never know though, this may be a case where he had a couple of beers and took a prescription, that will fuck you up.

Rick never said one way or the other on personal use, during the course of several times I was a guest on his show. He did, however, endorse the medical cannabis issue in 2006 and again in January 2008. While he may possibly be properly castigated for not taking a stronger personal stance, he is NOT a hypocrite, because I know of no instance in which he denied use or decried use.

Just one more fallen soldier, as far as I’m concerned.

  10. He will get the same slap that Janklow got. Move along nothing to see here.

Stoner Bob, you got ridiculed on more than one occasion by Rick & Ruth after your ‘bust’ for being in the public’s eye and driving around with weed in your car like a teenage dumbass.

    Sorry, but its the truth.

  12. Let’s all settle down now. Innocent until proven guilty.

    I’m calmer than you are.

  14. Just heard some old guys at a restaurant talking about the mayoral election, I think they calling Costello a silver spoon, but I guess I don’t know much about his family background, and then they were talking about Knobe. One guy says, “Just because he got a DWI doesn’t make him a bad person – he’ll bounce back from it.” Then another guy says, “He’ll be able to fight it and get his charge reduced, it’ll cost him though.” I guess people like pot smoking radio DJ’s more then they like rich people, funny.

Maybe the guy took some Ambien. That crap will mess anyone up. They should legalize pot and ban Ambien if you ask me.

  16. I had a friend who would call you after she took Ambien and forget the convo’s. They were pretty funny. She would tell you all kinds of things.

  17. This is a minor infraction that should in no way disqualify Knobe from any post he might’ve sought.

Personally, I’d take a stoner in a leadership post over an angry drunk, crank/coke head or a philanderer/tax cheat type any day of the week.

Side note/question, what ever happened to the Industrial Hemp drive? Seems like the road to decrimialization would lead through there?

You want a way to fund the $200 million shortfall on roads/bridges in one fell swoop with no tax increase? There ya go!

Sounds like a political setup. Probably another Munson vendetta. There’s no possession and no blood alcohol test. Judge will likely dismiss for lack of evidence. However, damage has been done due to media attention. Unfortunately, you cannot sue government or the media for slander. An arrest implies guilt and innocense (though proven) goes out the window. He was a good mayor. I’ve heard he’s had personal problems. Maybe he had a drink or two and maybe he took something prescribed or not. We all have had such turmoil and resorted to minor chemical relief. The difference is he’s a public and media figure subject to a higher standard. He will be valuable for his critique of the forthcoming mayors race and this incident will not prevent me from accepting/evaluating his opinions. His then and now comparisons of city government will be an important reflection.

  19. I like Rick too, it is just too bad he is being tried in the court of public opinion. I wish he would have ran for Mayor, I don’t think he would have won, but he would have added a lot to the debate. Maybe it is not too late.

Now that is funny, minor, but if he was a democrat it would have been major and put him away for life. I sniff an air of hypocrisy.

    Boner Angry Guy:

    So?

  23. There were rumors of this type of party while he was Mayor. Maybe it has never ended?

Boner. Good one… did you think of that all on your own or do you have writers?

I’m just saying that despite your convos & relationship with knobe, he made you out to be just another stupid criminal on the air because it suited his needs at the time.

  25. Maybe Pitty Patt Powwers will write a letter to the judge to throw the book at Knobe because he is an addict like he did with Newland. I think Rick’s case is different then Bob’s. It’s not like people didn’t know Bob was an advocate of legalization. AG makes a good point, IF Rick is found guilty of dancing with sweet Jane while driving and he has belittled legalization advocates on air, I would have to agree, he is being kind of an hypocrite, or maybe not, maybe he only promotes the use recreationally not medicinally . . . not that their is anything wrong with that.

  26. Helga:

“blah blah…for life. I sniff an air of hypocrisy.”

That’s something else wafting up from below your keyboard. As I posted, I don’t care if someone is a stoner in any leadership position all the way up to POTUS. I listed what I do care about vis a vis their qualifications and you’ll note race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age etc. don’t make the cut.

The reason I oppose democrats more often than not is because of their policies, which more often than not put a big red X on my back.

Aside from the 100 words on the KSFY site, there has been nothing about this in the news. WHat’s up?

  28. Knobe is a respected radio personality, I would assume that is why you haven’t heard much. Like I said, we’ll wait for his day in court and make a judgment from their.

  29. Angry Guy on October 18, 2009 at 8:03 am said:

Nope… I’ll be making my judgement right now, TYVM.

  30. tsk.tsk.tsk. becoming mayor doesn’t exempt you from the law.
