COOP (Cooper Christian) cut his teeth doing gig posters, and later went into silkscreen prints. Here are two of 9 prints I own by COOP (these are the tamest). COOP is well known for ‘comical’ portrayals of full-figured devil women, various monsters and characters.

Coop’s work is mind-blowing. Very detailed oriented. The dark lines he uses and the fairly photo-realistic images remind me of three of my favorite political cartoonists from the 60’s and 70’s, the late Hugh Haynie of the Louisville Courier Journal, the late Karl Hubenthal, a Nebraska native who drew for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner and designed the Minnesota Viking head logo, and L.D. Warren, who was replaced by Jim Borgman, at the Cincinnati Enquirer. Former San Francisco Examiner cartoonist, Ken Alexander, could also be included in this group. However, Coop’s draftmanship and energy is superior to the group I mentioned.

How could I be so stupid. I failed to mention my second favorite Political Cartoonist of all-time, the retired Bob Taylor of the now-defunct Dallas Times Herald. He was the artist who designed and drew the original, alternative logo for the Kansas City Chiefs (featuring the Native American running across Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas) when they moved from Dallas, where they were the Texans from 1961 to 1963. I hate to say it, but Coop’s graphics are superior to the great Bob Taylor. Although I’m very jealous of their talents, I’m also very much in awe of their abilities.
