Six Things to do in 2010 (The Hightower Report, Vol. 11 No. 12)

• Start considering what’s reasonable for you (Choose an issue that interests you and get involved when you have time)

• Inform yourself

• Democracy belongs to those who show up (Join others that reflect your views at local meetings and coffeehouses)

• A community is more than a collection of issues and endless meetings (Get to know each other by combining the serious with the social)

• Become the media (That’s what I try to do. Start a blog or a newsletter)

• Hold your own “what to do” sessions in your community.

I don’t know a lot about B. Thomas Making, but I’m glad to see an Indy in the race.

A Custer man said he’s circulating a nominating petition to run as an independent candidate for South Dakota’s U.S. House seat in November.

B. Thomas Marking needs 3,356 valid petition signatures by June 8 to qualify for the ballot.

The 61-year-old Marking said he’s a North Dakota native who spent 28 years working in the federal government before retiring in South Dakota in 1999.

Democratic Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is running for re-election to the House. Secretary of State Chris Nelson and state Rep. Blake Curd of Sioux Falls seek the Republican nomination.

Jinkies, didn’t see this coming;

Today’s announcement that Sarah Palin will become a contributor to Fox News Channel is the next step in the logical progression of her career.

I hope she cries on air about ‘loving America soooooo much’ like Glenn Beck does.

Let’s examine the Fox News deal from Palin’s perspective. Palin is a true, Hollywood-type celebrity with a bestselling book and millions of adoring fans. She may have designs on the presidency, but she evidently wants to soak up the perks and adulation of her celebrity first, and she has done that with gusto.
