An audit by the city has proven that Mr. Aware was doing a poor job of running the MCC;

An internal audit of the Sioux Falls Multi-Cultural Center released today found “many internal control weaknesses” in the area of payroll and accounting.

And what was his response?

Aware had strong words at today’s meeting for Minnehaha County Commissioners and others who he felt had wronged him as the center came under fire. He said he and his family have been discriminated against and persecuted.

“Somebody’s going to be responsible for this,” Aware said.

Yeah, McFly, someone is responsible. YOU! That is why you don’t work for the taxpayers anymore. Pack your shit and do us all a favor and leave our community (and take Janklow with you).

I’ve kept my opinion about Aware to myself, up until this point. Not sure if you have ever had to deal with him, but he is an arrogant bully who should have been canned years ago and it has nothing to do with him being an Iraqi immigrant. He is just a bully. I did a printing estimate for him one time and he accused me of trying to rip him off because he got a lower bid at a different printing company. I explained to him that 1) We used a more advanced printing process then our opponent (you get what you pay for) and 2) how was I ripping him off if we haven’t printed anything yet. He stomped out.

7 Thoughts on “Former Multi-Cultural Center’s director just doesn’t get it

    I haven’t watched any of the video on him nor read in depth his comments but just the little bit I’ve seen he appears to be an individual that BELIEVES wholeheartedly that EVERYONE is out to get him. Talk about paranoia! Can’t be rationale with an irrationale person!

    I’m waiting for him to use the ‘brown skin’ excuse. Ironically, most of the people hurting in our community are white breads like myself.

    I contacted him once about a donation of some equipment we no longer needed (shelving units, cabinets, AV and technical equipment etc) I explained what we had and he said he would come by to pick it up.

    He showed up with a couple of other guys to pick the stuff up and I showed him where it was. I explained very clearly the items they were getting and made it clear the items on the other side of the room were already designated for other non-profits. There were even signs on the equipment explaining who was getting what, so the ones that said “Multi-Cultural Center” were all he was getting.

    For one reason or another I was distracted and had to step away for a minute. When I returned he had went all the way across the room and taken some other equipment which was already loaded in his truck. I had to chase him down and tell him he couldn’t take it… and he was not very impressed.

    Based upon that little incident and his attitude (and lack of gratitude for the items he did get), it was the last time I ever arranged a donation for the MCC.

    They are much better off without him at the helm. I have heard enough about the man and interacted with him enough to know his reputation was doing a disservice to the MCC.

    I will say this. I can be a real asshole, but I don’t run a non-profit funded by taxpayers. It amazes me that this guy was allowed to have his job for so long.

  5. The guy’s a trainwreck. He personally changed the mission of the place without telling anyone. God knows what else he’s pillaged in his time there.

    He has turned off more people who want to contribute (like Costner) that he became a total joke.

    I remember seeing him at a gas station a few years ago. He was driving a Dodge 4×4 pickup and huge fricking boat. All I could think of was the SNL skit with Garret Morris playing Chico Esquela saying “America been berry, beery good to me.” I agree, he is a jerk.

  7. I am not opposed to paying someone like that a living wage, if they are qualified. This isn’t about money, it is about competence.
