This group is such a joke. Just watch the press conference where they didn’t even know each other’s names. LOL!

I’m all for people organizing in our community to make it a better place to live, but we all know this is just a shell cheerleading squad for the Mayor’s proposal.

I’ll say it again, Huether wants it on the ballot in November 2011, so if it fails he can try again in November 2012. Trust me folks, we are going to vote on this every year until it passes.

19 Thoughts on “RAH! RAH! RAH! GOOOOOOOOO . . . EVENTS CENTER!

  1. When do the exaggerated member counts begin? And when does my Build It Nowhere group get our publicity.

While I don’t find the domain purchase very telling, I do find the date purchased interesting. Hmmmmmmm.

  4. It’s a convention bureau creation.

I’d like to see which of these community douchenozzles have personal and/or financial ties to Our Man Muck.

  6. Am I on the banned list or something? Everything I post seems to disappear.

Yep Lewis, the say they only “formed” their group a couple weeks ago in their press release via the AL. Is it May yet?

Is this the best the Mayor could gather together? I am not one for always having heavy hitters or leaders in the room -but there was not one yesterday – not even an Evan Nolte or Slater Barr just there to listen. I really think they think we are too stupid to figure all of this out. Six of the businesses on this list are owned by 2 different people. Nikki from McNally’s (which she does a very fine job with this business), is the daughter of Bob Correa who also owns land by the arena. And your spokesperson is Mike Sullivan? Thanks for the gift. This guy has special interest written all over him. He is going to inspire joe taxpayer to get on board? LMAO.

  9. Both Sullivan & Kelly were among the commentators at the Council Meeting on site selection that stated they would’ve supported the project at either site, but then again neither of those guys are pollcats like our Mayor seems to be.

and Knuth being the same guy who’s crippled the bar/video lottery business with his anti-smoking campaign…interesting that all these bar owners and one of the lottery barons are apparently on board with this campaign.

Scott – Not sure what is going on with that? I see all spam before hand, but you haven’t shown up in my spambox. I will look into it.

Ruf – Mike Sullivan probably purchased the site on his own. He has been involved with this EC thing since the last task force farted around with it. This is something that has been in the works for quite awhile, it is unfortunate they are being misleading about getting together a few weeks ago. It is also interesting that the Chamber and Forward SF are not on board. I knew Nikki was Bob’s daughter, it is also important to note that Bob, Jim Entenman and the Gage brothers have been friends for years. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that many of these people will benefit from a new EC being built.

    Hey, Burger King supports it!

We should start an opposition group. Build it Nowhere and have a press conference on some unknown side street.

l3wis – so if all 3 of these would benefit – would they be considered a special interest group? We know Sullivan is in this for his own back pocket ie special interests. It was funny though, Sullivan made the comment “Progress is happening SF so get ready.” It seems to me that Dan Scott made somewhat of a similar comment and got raked for it. Regardless – that comment is not going to inspire the undecideds or the naysayers, especially when there isn’t one nickel of private donations yet. One more debacle to add to this process.

Not having private donors is the kicker here.

Count me in for the “Build It Nowhere,” opposition group! I am sick of the nepotism that exists in this town and I am sick of pandering to sporting enthusiasts and do not try to convince me that our selection of bands will improve. I have seen some good performances without a new center such as Dylan, Danzig, Costello, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, Starf*cker, Dessa, ect ect. If you want to build a Pomp Room clone, I am all ears. Otherwise, my vote is a definite NO!

I agree, we have fantastic smaller venues in SF that we are not using as much as we can. I suggested to the son of the lady restoring the State Theatre that they should make the floor seats in there retractable so you could put on rock shows and other concerts that encourage dancing. Why just use it as a movie or play theatre?

  17. I think I like this Brom character.

BTW, the Orpheum (another under-utilized building) doesn’t want Starfucker to play even under the sanitized version of their name.

Seriously – who is the poor guy that is dressed in the cheerleading outfit? Now that’s funny!

I agree with the build it nowhere people. I have read a couple articles lately where different performers and/or acts were asked how they determined where to appear. The answer was it depends on the routing and the promoters in the towns/cities. The sports groups should pay for their own venues if they want a different location. Also the big name people/businesses should be extremely anxious to build it, if it was going to be such a big money-maker and even at that, the city would be maintaining it with taxpayer money.
