A South DaCola foot soldier sent me this, this morning. Apparently they took the picture at 7 AM and when they drove by an hour later they were still sitting there in the same spots. What we don’t know is how long they were there before 7 AM and how long they were there after 8 AM. Kinda reminds me of the sander truck driver who takes his ‘break’ hiding behind the can recycling building on my street. I see him there all the time, or the guy I would see a few summer’s ago who would read a novel while watering ONE tree at a time at Yankton Trail Park (because when you have a huge water truck like that you can only run one, 1″ hose at a time 🙂

11 Thoughts on “Break time at the skate park

I had to pull into that lot a few days ago to make a U-turn on a delivery run. It was about 2:30 PM. There were two cars and a van – each with one person in them – just sitting there. For some reason they glared at me as I made my maneuver. I did NOT notice whether they had city plates on them. Seems it may be a popular place for all sorts of folks to take a break.

  2. The coppers like that lot to.

. . . because it is close to their two favorite eateries (Avera and McDonalds)

There’s no process for city employee complaints. There was a civil service process pre-Huether that was abolished along with anything else constitutional or democratic.

People other than employees eat at avera?

Yeah, I have heard that Avera gives the coppers free meal cards to eat at Avera, that is why you see multiple cop cars in the Emergency parking lot around lunch time. Of course, this is against the SFPD’s policy, but it is a ‘suggested’ policy, not a ‘written’ policy.

I have also heard that this is a positive thing, because having coppers around when some crazy person goes bananas is a good thing. And, hey, if it keeps people safe just buying someone a fruit cup and an egg salad sandwich. Carry on.

  7. I see many times up to 5-7 officers at a table.I have been tempted to ask them who is out on the streets protecting us.

They stagger their lunch breaks C, so fear not there are still plenty of officers ready and willing to give you a beat down if you decide to carry an open 40oz in Pettigrew Heights.

Beat down? That’s laughable, those guy’s couldn’t catch a cold in a foot race.

There are two types. Those you describe that have ordered one too many orders of bacon cheese fries, and the type who should probably be tested for anabolic steroids. Actually I think most start off as the latter and after 30 years become the former.

I know some cops and I like them, but after being around them and their fellow officers for a while it becomes very obvious that profession attracts a certain type of person. Think of that guy that was always getting into fist fights back in high school and who probably would have joined the military but he was too scared to move more than 100 miles from his parents / girlfriend / home town.

That guy is probably a cop somewhere right now.

Craig – I am kinda using a broad brush. You are right, I have seen some very fit cops, and not so fit cops. There is also a couple of babes that work on the force.
