About 100 of their signs on the west side of Sioux Falls were stolen last night. They have filed a police report and are pursuing the thieves.

This actually surprises me, I have heard of a few political signs be stolen before in races, but 100 is quite a bit, (valued at around $400) it would be very hard to hide that many. I suggest people keep their eyes peeled.

This ‘issue’ is getting more interesting by the day and I want to remind people, no matter what side you are on, let’s play and campaign fairly.

This is an attack on free speech. It’s why there should be changes in the school board. Perhaps your children can learn what you didn’t about choice and our right to vote.

Both sides are wrong. We need to get rid of the agrarian school calendar. It is not the 19th century any more. We need to go to a full school year calendar with three or four breaks of two to threes weeks at a time throughout the year.

Unfortunately, school is not really for the kids and their education is it? Whether it be the 19th century, when kids needed to end their education to help on the farm during the summer months, or in the early 21st century to work at sub-minimum wage jobs to help the tourism industry (and/or to facilitate the deteriorating middle class who use to take their kids on vacation in the summer in their “family truckster” to further facilitate the tourism industry.) School, children, and a good education continue to be an after thought to the needs of the overall economy, and this is very sad…. Especially, when you further consider that we currently have a governor who criticizes the idea of a liberal arts education and wants everyone to become a technocrat….. (It’s all about the economy stupid!…. Even if it keeps you stupid. 😉 )

These signs will never be found or the culprits. I assume the Washington HS students celebrating the victory of the Girl’s BB team on Saturday needed some kindling to start the bonfire for their beer party in the country. Plus they would rather keep the school year as it is.

And as for you nonagrarians out there. Many farm families (especially in small town) may take kids out of school in both the spring and the fall for farm duties. Much more common 30 years ago, but it still happens. Many can not afford to hire people to help when you have family that can. So changing the calendar does not help much anyway. Forget year around school in a farm based community.
