How’s this for SD Pride?

“This agreement finalizes the strategic partnership that will drive the development of the USD Discovery District forward,” said Rich Naser, president of the district. “We selected Tetrad Property Group for their industry expertise and capacity to invest equity into projects — among other factors. Our partnership will accelerate the timeline of projects and position the park to attract new tenants — and the right type of tenants.”

The 10-year agreement includes the Discovery District overseeing infrastructure for the property, including streets, sidewalks, utilities and signage in addition to grounds and common areas. The two organizations will team up to market and manage the district up to the 10-year mark or the completion of the initial 400,000 square feet.

So the state and city coffers are investing in project that will attract workers from out of state and being developed by an out of state developer. Funny how they never mentioned this when asking for money from the Sioux Falls city council. Maybe we should change the name to the Nebraska Discovery Center funded by the generous taxpayers of South Dakota.

6 Thoughts on “University of South Dakota hires Nebraska Developer

  1. You really do feel the need to complain about everything, huh?

Has it occurred to you that they were hired because they were the most qualified partner?

TPG built the Innovation Campus at UNL, which is somewhat of a model for this project. I would rather go with a contractor in a neighboring state that has done a project like this before than a local company that hasn’t.

at least they didn’t give it to legacy or lloyd. i’d also like to see something different than what usually gets put up in town too.

MP, I would agree you want to hire someone who knows what they are doing, but that doesn’t always work out the best either, look at our dented up Events Center. Also, I truly believe we have the talent in SF when it comes to development, design, engineering, etc. Any specialty items with the design can certainly be subcontracted. I don’t know why we are consistently looking elsewhere. It’s like the golf contract. I think DGM or GreatLife could have handled that contract. But the bigger factor here is that it is a Public Private Partnership with the taxpayers of SD and SF. If you are using local taxdollars, it would be nice if they were spent locally instead of sending them out of state. We talk about the Economic Impact of this project and the first thing we do is send money out of state to design it. Silly.

  5. What about Lamont Sanford, or Lamont and/or Sanford, or whatever they call themselves?…. (You don’t think it will Boomerang on them, do you?)… Because he or they hang with builders too…..:

What comes around goes around in the development/construction business buddy. This good ole’ SD boy has been working the past 4 years for a SD business doing major projects in ND, WY, CO, NE, MN and IA. It’s matter of expertise and cost. Best player wins – not home-boy wins.
