And if you’re thinking your call will be logged, that may not be the case.
“Really, not every phone call that comes into our department gets logged,” said Kevin Smith, director of planning and development for the City of Sioux Falls.
So what is the protocol for documenting a complaint?
“It really depends on who took the call,” said Smith. “And did they have enough information on which address you’re calling about.”
City officials say if you want a follow-up call to your complaint, the responsibility is on you to ask for it.
I’m surprised they even make the code enforcement officers show up for work anymore.
Was physically threatened by code enforcer when he wasn’t part of a hearing in old council chambers. City Hall makes life interesting for a decorated combat veteran. It’s passive entertainment when you’re to old to join mercenaries in Ukraine.

“Say, I recently saw some kids trying to sell lemonade near the 85th Street Walmart”….. “Great visibility and traffic, but terrible access”….. “Perhaps, StartUp Sioux Falls could help them”….
This warning from the director of directors is proof city hall is not citizen friendly. Voice record all communication, send documents/evidence return receipt, and have a witness (preferably a lawyer) present for anything in person. Anything they send you must be properly served. Otherwise, you never got it. City record keeping is inferior. If you have a citation ignore it. There’s often no follow up. If there is, ask for another. It becomes unenforceable double jeopardy.
Sad when you must protect yourself from government that should be protecting you.
