watering-trees-with-treegator

For the third time in less then a month I caught the same P & R worker enthralled in his novel while watering trees in Yankton Trail park. (you know all those new trees they planted after cutting perfectly good mature trees down last year). I tried to snap a picture with my camera phone but he caught a glimpse of me, so no luck. The same worker in a brand new P & R truck has been sitting in the cab of the truck reading a book while watering trees. Sure, it probably takes a few minutes to water each tree, but couldn’t you be either A) watering multiple trees at once and using your time to move hoses or B) weed whacking around the trees while watering? I guess multi-tasking isn’t a requirement of the P & R workers. I guess that is why you always see two of them on an ATV picking up trash. One to pickup the trash, and one to hold the garbage bag. And we wonder why the city spent $7 million in labor on our parks this year. Gee, I’m no accountant, but I can probably guess why.

9 Thoughts on “SF Parks and Rec worker struggles with multi-tasking I guess

  1. Sure…. But what if he had Internet access and was blogging or checking blogs while at work. That would be…. what everyone else does?

  2. Kinda hard to check blogs at work when you don’t have a job.

Ben – if he was on break or lunch nobody would care, but since he is a city employee it seems a little wasteful of our tax dollars to pay a guy to read a novel.

If employees are checking blogs when they should be working, that is up to their managers or companies to recognize and address. On the other hand if someone is unemployed, self-employed, or not at work… it isn’t anyone’s business what they do with their time provided they aren’t breaking any laws.

In this case we (as taxpayers) are the managers for the P&R employees, so it is justified to be a little upset at their work ethic.

  4. It seems they find ways to take as long as they can to do a task. They could water 4 trees at once. But instead they read books and water one at a time. Silly.

It reminds me of the 8 times they fixed that hole in the road by Lincoln High, instead just fixing it right the first time.

I hope the next mayor cleans house.

  5. My man mike will!

  6. John, I am just gonna say it, Mike doesn’t have a clue. I suggest he holes himself up in a room with a computer and internet access and watch every single council, planning, informational and charter meeting over the past 2-3 years, take notes, drink coffee (and beer) and get a grasp of what has been going on in dear old Sioux Falls instead sticking stickers on old people at parades and kissing babies.

  7. He hired Hilde to work for campaign. They’re 10 times better than L&S. And Epp is on board. The mans rolling!

  8. Sounds like a D & D party that I am glad I wasn’t invited to.
