There a lot of things that are more important than an event center.

  3. Best cartoon ever!

  4. Strike that – best photoshop ever! I stink.

  5. Really? I was on the fence. Not sure if people would get it. The image is perfect. It was like the 3rd image that came up in Google. I love the smile on the guy’s face. He’s like, “Heh-heh, the media is here, smile for the camera.” and his wife is like, “Fuck this shit!”

But do you enhance your sewer system to handle water levels not seen in 100 years or instead try to educate homeowners on backwater valves that could protect them and their homes? I can tell you right now if I lived in a low part of the city or in an older home prone to flooding, I’d spend the couple hundred bucks to have a backwater valve installed in a heartbeat.

I seem to recall people complaining quite a bit about the expense to raise the levys, so what difference is it here? It is still something that is being sized way over normal in order to deal with that one in a million event.

Not that it will prevent homeowners from trying to sue the city or blame them for the event though.

The timing is perfect to sue the city. Courts do not accept their civil procedures and their defense is weak. Hurry, their insurance is about to be cancelled.

A bankrupt city is the best way to get control of employee unions and initiate a cheaper system of COD competitive bid private contractors. Sometimes worse is better.

City administration could care less. They live on the hill and their shit don’t stink. When I grow up I want to be a dictator mayor. President is hard work and you don’t get 2 weeks vacation every 6 weeks.

Costner – Thanks for bringing up the levies. Isn’t it ironic that even though they have not been fully raised yet, we still have had no flooding in those areas?

I’m not sure it is ironic – the levys actually protect us more from rain to the North that comes down in the river. They don’t have as much impact when the rain actually hits the city directly as much of that flooding would be experienced down river.

I still think the levy project is stupid, but it really doesn’t have much bearing on the situation we are in right now.

Oh yea and PG – the major’s “vacation” was what… three days? He was working late last week and was back at work on Monday, so aside from the weekend and perhaps a day or two last week he has been around and available. I don’t think it is fair to make accusations about a two week vacation when that is a clear fabrication.

I told him he needed to take off his tie at the picnic last night and relax a little.

The city isn’t going bankrupt, have major sewer system deficiencies or losing its insurance coverage. Easy solution to these sewer backups, send code enforcement into the affected neighborhoods to ensure people aren’t dumping into the sanitary sewer. When we get this much rain, people will be affected no matter how much money you throw into your infrastructure. We should be thankful there are no bodies floating down the river.

The Superdome is where people were safe when New Orleans flooded. If the flooding problem is not addressed, refuges can move into a new events center. It’s weird reasoning or someone must be psychic.

    More like psychotic.

I don’t blame anyone for our poor weather conditions, but it bothers me a little that city directors that get paid ALOT of money are not fixing the problem quicker.

It’s the ‘Sioux Falls Turd Race’. See if your turd travels fastest into the Sioux River. For one week, the city is renamed ‘Sioux Flush’. Gather at the falls with plungers.
