Social media consultant/Build It Downtown activist Andy Traub is our guest on this episode, and he gives us his expert testimony on many issues surrounding the Event Center. Unfortunately, Traub had to leave at the halfway mark, and after his departure Scott and I continued to talk about local and state issues. As with all episodes, you can download this via the iTunes store, or directly download it HERE!

24 Thoughts on “Rant-A-Bit Episode #11; Guest Andy Traub

    Thanks guys. Had fun.

  2. Besides Hunhoff, I think you were our smartest guest.

  3. You definitely raised the IQ in the room.

  4. Andy. Good show. I have one issue though. If, in light of all the reasons brought up WHY having an EC is strangling our tax dollars, would you have been fully on board had this white elephant been built DT? I sense you and Jennifer Holsen would have been pulling the Huether bandwagon had the EC been to be built DT.

Poly43, your point would be valid IF the DT location would have been such a loser as the arena site EC will be. I did not support the EC plan b/c
    1. We got ZERO private dollars (the Mayor said we’d get millions, and that’s NOT including the naming rights)
    2. The economic spin-off development in the immediate area is gonna SUCK. DT location would have had a massive effect on the growth of the city’s core
    3. I’m not sure we need 12K seats. I’d want a smaller EC.

I’m GREAT with spending tax dollars if I think they will help our city or make money. This plan is NOT going to have the impact that a DT location would have/could have had and we’re buying the whole thing on CREDIT. I hope that explains my logic. If not keep asking me questions. I’m happy to answer them publicly or privately andy at andytraub.com is my email. Thanks for listening too 🙂

Andy. In my opinion the EC is a loser for SF regardless of location. We just do not have enough people within 100 mile circumference of the city to justify it. Same within a 200 mile radius. If it would have been built DT parking would have been a huge issue. l3wis made mention of it in the podcast. But the number one reason is the one Scott H keeps reminding us of. There just is no market anymore for 12,000 seat venues.

  7. I wonder if Andy is considering running for a Council seat…..2012……2014?

All things considered…I’d vote for him.

Just a comment on the whole “Lewis and Clark is begging” and “we should just tell them no” rant. No, Lewis and Clark is not begging. The city of Sioiux Falls, along withy EVERY OTHER particpating PARTNER in te Lewis and Clark project signed a contract that INCLUDED a contingency clause – should Federal funding fall through. That clause states that ALL of the partners are committed to fully fund the project to completion in that case. This is a condition that the city of SF and all the others have KNOWN about all along.

  10. And as Troy Larson reminded the Council……….

that clause is known as “the nuclear option.”

A $194 million dollar liability for the 20 members if the Feds do not honor their end of the deal.

Visualize what that in combination with a $184 million dollar commitment to the Events Center will do to the financial health (OR NOT) of the City of Sioux Falls.

  11. I’d vote for Andy

  12. Ruf – Like I said in the podcast, one of the dumbest decisions the council ever made. $80 million or maybe more for a backup.

Poly, all things considered I’ll take that as a compliment. Regarding an EC, I think there are better things to do with 180M for sure.

cr, have you ever thought of running for a seat? If I ever ran I doubt I’d win but I would do some CRAZY stuff that would make people think hard about the election process.

  15. I’d vote for Andy too.

Thanks Sy. I’m up to 4 votes and I haven’t even gotten the OK from the wife. Honestly, I think the chance of me winning if I ran is 5% because I hate the system and wouldn’t play by the rules (i.e. telling people what they want to hear vs. the truth and raising lots of money). Thanks for the encouragement.

  17. Andy, maybe both of us should run, just to say we did it?

  18. I’d vote for you too, L3wis..just to say I did.

  19. With all these fringe candidates from this site entering politics, Janoct’s vote totals will continue to decline.

L3wis talk about fringe candidates. We could wear matching sweaters:)

  21. We would look like Abbot and Costello.

  23. Who is running for city council? Who? Who? Central District? No, At Large. Who is Large?
