First thing I did today was download 13 to my mp3 player. Listened to it while on my walk. Holy crap. Was so good I listened to the whole thing while walking….ended up being an eight mile walk. Thanks for a great discussion and helping me lose a couple pounds.

We need more of your show. Keep em coming.

Sounds like a new freedom of the press … er internet. Now make it profitable. Can’t be any harder than selling a few newspapers (very few) or ads on networks ( pork, ag, etc.).

How bout a local (only) craigslist ads model? Maybe shopping news willing to replace print with posts.

Keep it South Dacola or Shop Dacola. Just don’t name it Sanford. Synonymous with fascism.

If the press & broadcast can’t serve the people, then come in with freedom of the press and ads where people want to post and find response. It’s an old business plan that works even better when you’re not paying for ink and transmitter hardware. See & respond to demand & the market. Sell me some shares.

  6. Thanks, Pathloss! Glad you enjoyed our rambling.

  7. i just realized I called Varilek a prick during the show. LOL! (BTW, it was in jest, and now you will have to listen to it to find out why).

Larry – Yeah, Stehly plans to attend the PC tomorrow. We will see if the Mayor brings up the snowgates petition drive. I know as of right now we are on track to hand in the petitions at the end of November/beginning of December. We think we will be hovering at 8,000 signatures or more.

Bill Pederson (sp?) signed the petition today, gleefully, I am told.

The Montana corporate spending law was touched in the discussion and PBS Frontline has an amazing show to watch. If you don’t understand the KOCH / Gant / ALEC mess watch the show: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/big-sky-big-money/ .

  9. Interesting, at 10 AM this morning, the AL had a post about how they were covering the snowgates PC live at 10:30 AM. When I went back at 10:30 AM the post on their site disappeared. When I did a search of the PC, A video popped up of Tina Curl talking about the execution last night. Wonder if the mayor got on the horn and told them not to cover it. Hmmmm. more then likely though the AL had technical issues with their state of the art equipment 🙂

  10. GP. Will watch later today. PBS is really good. Showed me everything I need to know about the SD credit card industry and the role Janklow and SF played in it. You did a great job on the podcast by the way. Not only am in step with your political leanings…we have something else in common. My mom came from a large family, grew up in Sioux City, and is a healthy 64 years young.

  11. Just got off the horn w/Stehly. She did tell me the press conference was recorded by the AL and other media. They were having technical problems and could not link to the website.

Stehly was able to ask a question about how city workers are responding to her about the gates. She also told me that they did a poor demonstration of an Ironex snowgate. But she said the mayor said that the city must be prudent when it comes to making the decision of snowgates. Mike, let’s go over this again. When this gets on the ballot, citizens will be making the decision, NOT YOU. And if they vote for them, YOU WILL have to implement them. This is NOT up to you, this is up to voters. When are you going to figure this out?

  12. Mike says that he wasn’t going to address Stehly’s comments, then he does 🙂

  13. If you are interested in learning more about ALEC, I would suggest viewing the following:

“The United States of ALEC,” is a special report by legendary journalist Bill Moyers on how the secretive American Legislative Exchange Council has helped corporate America to propose and even draft legislation for states across the country. ALEC brings together major U.S. corporations and right-wing legislators to craft and vote on “model” bills behind closed doors. It has come under increasing scrutiny for its role in promoting “stand your ground” gun laws, voter suppression bills, union-busting policies and other controversial legislation. Although billing itself as a “nonpartisan public-private partnership,” ALEC is actually a national network of state politicians and powerful corporations principally concerned with increasing corporate profits without public scrutiny.

I have never heard those rantabit things you put on mp3. it was very interesting and entertaining. The talk about Mr. Powers and Mr. Gant was very amusing on one hand and very sad on the other. Our elected officials should no be so incompetent or buffoonish. I will not help put up any Gant signs and your readers should not eighter. Down with Gant. Boo!

Grud. If you liked 13, try the previous 12. Old, but still relevant and in retrospect, in all cases Scott & Scott can both say I TOLD YOU SO. BTW, Scott H, how does a person find your previous 12 rants on your new format?
And Grud. Download some of Scott H’s music selections. Not bad listening, plus the price is right.

Voted today at the courthouse. Good sign. I had to wait in line. First time ever. Plus, the snow-gate petitioner was wearing out her pencil.

Not that it really matters, but Scott must be wondering, “How can Poly43’s mom only be 64?” Typo. 84. Just looks and acts like 64. I’m the one who lamented Paul McCartney’s “When I’m 64” om my last birthday.

  16. CR, I thought I introduced you to GP? Maybe not? He has been instrumental in the snowgates petition drive. Don’t be a hater. I have learned from running my blog that sometimes things are best left unsaid. The line I hear most from Stehly is this, “I’m gonna tell you this, but don’t blog about it.” Cracks me up everytime. Ironically, as private citizens, we have WAY more rights about privacy then any elected official does. May I suggest 2-way radios between the Staggers Super Friends?

Thanks cr, here is your link to the fantastic show Moyers did: http://billmoyers.com/episode/full-show-united-states-of-alec/

  18. Poly, when we had our host problems, I had to re-submit the show to iTunes. Unfortunately, you can’t delete a show so there are two “Rant a Bits” in the iTunes store. You’ll want to subscribe to the one that has (mp3) at the end of the name – Rant a Bit With Scott and Scott (mp3).

Or you can go to the wordpress site I have that creates the feed that goes to iTunes – http://rantabit.realpunkradio.com – and you can pick and choose which ones you want to either stream or download.
