Rumor has it, this small national franchise is looking to open up shop in DTSF. The concept is simple, The Chatterbox caters to women (I heard there is a sign on the door of the establishment that says, Men enter at your own risk). The interiors have a bistro/coffee house feel about them, but a lot of pastel motifs. And unlike a normal bar or coffee house, where you order from someone, The CB charges a cover at the door of $10 and $1 for each additional hour you are there (you pay as you leave). You help yourself to complimentary Moscato white wine or Mich Ultra that is on tap. There is no staff assistance at the CB, you simply pay with a credit card when you leave.
I guess the lady who started the place says this about her concept, “I just wanted a place where I could shoot the breeze with the ladies for hours on end, without the interruption of servers or men, while solving none of the world’s problems.”
Since they plan to have Mich Ultra on tap it would probably be successful, but if they tried to put Bud Light, Miller Lite, or Coors Light on tap the locals would empty the kegs every Friday and Saturday night as it because the most popular pre-bar bar in the area.
PBR on tap would fill the place with hipsters, but all of the fixie bikes parked out front and the overabundance of guys sporting neckbeards and ironic tattoos would keep the ladies away, so chances are The Chatterbox learned that one by experience.
I don’t see profit potential. Prices are to low. Many women here can knock back more than 3 beers an hour. It’s gonna be hard to pay the lease & keep the lights on. Everything new in Sioux Falls is popular for awhile. It will start to struggle after 6 months. I’m a single male. I might walk in there once in awhile so I can get a bitching fix before going home to the one who loves me most. Namely, my dog.

BTW, what would be the reaction if somebody tried to start a similar concept for men? I can only imagine what would be said about the line “without the distraction of women”. Sexist pigs!
Correct Scott. We lost our Hooters. The one and only strip club is pasties. Where can a man go? It’s our fault we’re heterosexual. We should be restricted from clubs reserved for one sex.

Shriners and the Moose Club are both men’s organizations, and if you ask many women they would probably say most bars in town already do their best at suggesting women enter at their own risk.
I get your point though – and can’t disagree. There will always be some portion of the population that finds sexism, racism, or discrimination at every turn but only points it out when it happens to go against their preferences.
