What has baffled me about all the local government bodies across the state approving Covid bonuses for employees from federal money is the lack of a mandate. While the mostly conservative SCOTUS has thrown out government mandated vaccinations it seems puzzling to me we would give bonuses to county employees for working through Covid yet not requiring them to be vaccinated. They mention that the jail staff had to be exposed to Covid but don’t say anything about requiring them to get a vaccination. I don’t think any public safety officer or government employee should receive a bonus unless they prove they have been fully vaccinated and boosted. You would avoid officially mandating it, and you would create an incentive to get it. It seems silly to me that we would reward people for working through Covid yet allowing the ones without a vaccination to expose citizens that come in contact with them.

What about the healthcare costs for taxpayers of unvaccinated county employees?

The massive hypocrisy of local governments willingly taking Federal Covid money and dispersing it as Covid retention bonuses without the requirement of vaccination is mind boggling.

9 Thoughts on “Minnehaha County Commission Approves Bonuses without Vaccination Mandate

So let me get this right. Conservatives who hate and defy government, especially the Feds, are getting a pay raise, or bonus, because of them? Is that right? But haven’t farmers, and especially West River ranchers, been doing this for years?

Supreme Court ruled that they cannot force “Employees” to get the vaccine…

  3. You are correct, they cannot mandate the vaccination, as I said in the post, BUT they do have the right to with hold the bonus if they do not get a vaccination and it would not go against their employment status or their rights. Get the shot, get the bonus.

  4. Oh, ffs. Get over covid and vax mandates already.

  5. Somebody’s watching too much Covid Nauseam Network.

Man L3wis, I think the Wuhan Jab has made you crazy?!

Better question, why don’t we just withhold $$$$ from anyone who won’t get the Wuhan Jab? Start with, income tax returns, unemployment benefits, WIC, etc. I also think drug testing should be mandatory for all said $$$$ as well.

Everything is political and because you don’t get a vaccine does that means you didn’t perform your job and deserver your bonus? That is just stupid!!!

Scott you’re just going off the rails and since you are a “my body my choice” person I would say your Hypocrisy is showing. Some of you folks are just flat out getting crazy with this vaccine stuff and you wonder how the Nazi’s got Jews to wear little stars and spread misinformation about how bad they are and everyone went along with it. If you cannot see the similarities I would say your are blind. Dude Let it go man

  8. Unless you are living under a rock, data shows that those who are vaccinated are about 5x less likely to hospitalized or get a serious infection. I know you want to ignore the data, but it is there. Secondly if you read my post, you will see that I acknowledge that it would be hard to mandate a vaccination, BUT the commission does have the power to withhold the bonus if you are not vaccinated. It would NOT be a mandate that effects employment status, but an INCENTIVE to do the right thing.I find it ironic that while many local governments bitch about the Federal response to Covid they surely will take the money and reward people who are too damn stupid to get a vaccination costing taxpayers in healthcare costs.

This action is the least “work” for the Commission. They won’t get angry phone calls from the folks promoting vaccination, but they would have a meeting room full of anti-vaxers if they required vaccinations.
