First, I want to say that are at least 1 or 2 councilors that do the work, but that faction changes on a daily basis and is getting smaller. Don’t get me wrong, I think peeps on the City Council are nice, and respectable business peeps in town, but they have no clue how to do policy or actually put in the time. I have blogged about city politics for over 20 years, and I have never seen a more LAZY, IGNORANT, INCOMPETENT and frankly MISINFORMED council. If it is Black they vote White, if it is White, they vote Black, they almost resist so they don’t make a bad decision. So, I get it, you think this is my opinion, not at all backed up with data;

We got an ‘F’ in workforce. I was actually surprised it wasn’t lower. Let’s face it, the rich do very well in Sux, because they are taking from the rest of us, this is enabled by a council (who have two members that never received one f’ing vote!) And maybe that is why they suck, they didn’t have to face an opponent? They didn’t do anything wrong, they signed up to run, and had no challengers, but they also have had no constituent choose them, so they tend to mend their own fence.

I guess, as I look at the policy body for the city (council) you have a lot of power to improve this, but you are not doing it, you sit on your hands, and to be honest with you, you look like a bunch of dolts when you discuss policy because everyone knows you don’t do a f’ing thing. AND, BTW, this isn’t me talking, constituents who follow this are scared, pissed and mortified by the city leadership. Tons of rich folks are mad to because they got screwed on deals. I’m sorry, but when you have a local governing body that rolls over like a dead dog every Tuesday, yah gotta question their motives.

THE CHARTER IS CLEAR! YOU ARE THE POLICY BODY, THE MAYOR IS THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER. YOU TELL HIM WHAT TO DO, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. SUCKERS! SUCKERS! SUCKERS!

I think 100% of the council knows we have issues, so what are they going to do about it? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

  1. I think I told you recently on the rec trail that there won’t be another Republican house, senate or presidency for the next 20 years. They put all their eggs in the Trump basket, and it will be the finally nail in their coffin. Which is great, but I’ll be dead before the damage that has been done will be fixed. It will take 30-40 years to turn the clock back, and by then, we won’t be a country and the earth will be on fire, so it won’t matter. So sad that this 249 year experiment will end with an old, dried up, orange turd. How’s those egg prices working out for yah?

  2. Whoa! Harsh but true commentary. Perhaps the council realizes they’re just for looks. Home Rule Charter gives the mayor all the power. Sitting on the council is a puppet show that looks good on a resume but there’s hardly any influence.

  3. The real problem, though, is the current fxcking Supreme Court. AND, the thought that we are about to celebrate our Nation’s 250th birthday with Trump as president is a fuxking joke.

    Jim Crow lasted over 80 years, and with Trump, it’s back, and Trump has nationalized it to the point that it is easily now found north of the Mason-Dixon Line due to his policies and rhetoric. Trump has empowered the “lower case kkk.” It is this newfound or charged racism that is the root of the current evil. Sadly, it is no longer, “It’s the economy, stupid,” but rather now, “It’s racism, stupid.” The amount of damage that Trump has done to this country is enormous.

    But we have this mess not so much because of Trump and the Republicans, but because of the Democrats who sold their soul with things like NAFTA and allowing their party to be nothing but a consortium of multiple agendas, where the leaders of these agendas do not care and cannot lead and articulate beyond their own single constituency issue, which then allows the right to easily identify and marginalize the overall Democratic Party.

    Given the slowing birth rate, aging population, people living longer, and the fact that world population will begin to decline after 2042, we are walking into a ‘Future Stagnation,’ a politics of entrenchment, where neither side can gain the upper hand, and so we increasingly dance in a sea of misery, blaming each other for all of the World’s problems. #GoodLuck&GoodNight

  4. Scott is right, the “City Council” which does include the Mayor, is as equal in power as the Mayor’s office.

    The Strong Mayor has ‘administrative power’ to execute, and manage the departments, offices, agencies.
    The Strong City Council has ‘Investigative power’ to inspect, review, audit, and hold the departments, offices, agencies accountable to the charter, the ordinances, the promises adopted by the ‘people’.

    They are “Equal” in power, and as Scott says, cannot over-rule the other. This is why I wish we would realign the city to create a “odd numbered council” that creates 7 Districts, 2 At-Large Reps, and 1 Mayor. This means the mayor cannot break a tie, but the Mayor could in fact VETO legislation.

    The City Council has to grow a set of balls, and actually invoke their “Charter” power – Section 2.09…they must subpeona and hold these public officials, officers, agents, employees to their OATHS, let alone, they must further inspect and audit these Non-Profits to better account where all these public taxes are going ensuring that no one is profiting from “public taxes”

    But the big problem is, that under the charter system – the city is operated like a business, and when looked in this way, the “Landowners and Property Holders” have the greatest power here. The TOP TEN property holders when you look in our financial report have huge power, followed by the “Developers” aka Sioux Falls Development Foundation, Sioux Falls Downtown, Forward Sioux falls, Chamber of Sioux Falls etc – they raise all the money to prop up our “At-Large Representatives” which include the Mayor, giving them 4 ‘votes’ on the City Council to 5 votes for the residents (Districts).

    So, i think the City Council ‘fears’ using their subpoena powers in fear of upsetting their ‘wealthy investors” cause they need them to help fund all their pet projects around the city.
