Everyone’s favorite Virginity Queen can’t stay out of the news for too long (H/T – Helga):

The crisis pregnancy centers set up to help girls and women at the very time in their life when they need the most help and the centers turn out to be less then Christian. (I am being charitable)   After reading this it appears that abstinence programs lead to a lot of babies being born, so perhaps that is why she pushed that program.  Or maybe I am a cynic.  Helga
“Crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs), the nonprofit pregnancy-testing facilities set up by antiabortion groups to dissuade women from having abortions, have become fixtures of the antiabortion landscape, buttressed by an estimated $60 million in federal abstinence and marriage-promotion funds. The National Abortion Federation estimates that as many as 4,000 CPCs operate in the United States, often using deceptive tactics like posing as abortion providers and showing women graphic antiabortion films. While there is growing awareness of how CPCs hinder abortion access, the centers have a broader agenda that is less well known: they seek not only to induce women to “choose life” but to choose adoption, either by offering adoption services themselves, as in Bethany’s case, or by referring women to Christian adoption agencies. Far more than other adoption agencies, conservative Christian agencies demonstrate a pattern and history of coercing women to relinquish their children. ”

Shotgun Adoption

Page 2: In 1984 Leslee Unruh, founder of Abstinence Clearinghouse, established a CPC in South Dakota called the Alpha Center. The first center had opened in 1967, but in 1984 Unruh’s CPC was still a relatively new idea. In 1987 the state attorney’s office investigated complaints that Unruh had offered young women money to carry their pregnancies to term and then relinquish their babies for adoption.

“There were so many allegations about improper adoptions being made and how teenage girls were being pressured to give up their children,” then-state attorney Tim Wilka told the Argus Leader, that the governor asked him to take the case. The Alpha Center pleaded no contest to five counts of unlicensed adoption and foster care practices; nineteen other charges were dropped, including four felonies. But where Unruh left off, many CPCs and antiabortion groups have taken up in her place.

Page 3: In recent years, the antiabortion push for adoption has been taken up as a broader evangelical cause. In 2007 Focus on the Family hosted an Evangelical Orphan Care and Adoption Summit in Colorado Springs. Ryan Dobson, the adopted son of Focus founder James Dobson, has campaigned on behalf of CHFS and Unruh’s Alpha Center. Last year 600 church and ministry leaders gathered in Florida to promote adoption through the Christian Alliance for Orphans. And a recent book in the idiosyncratic genre of prolife fiction, The River Nile, exalted a clinic that tricked abortion-seeking women into adoption instead.

Abortion Debate, don’t go away mad, just go away.

I’m so sick of this shit.

However, I did like this part of the judge’s decision;

Schreier was persuaded by multiple studies showing women who get abortions have no increased risk of suicide. The state provided arguments to the contrary but no evidence, she said.

“Because such a risk is not ‘known,’ the suicide disclosure language of the statute is untruthful and misleading,” Schreier wrote.

Everything that comes out of the Unruh’s mouths are untruthful and misleading. Duh.

I think Amy Rigby’s song, “I don’t want to talk about love no more.” explains it all.

You mean abortion ends a pregnancy? Get out!

When are we gonna clean house of our kook bag legislators who write silly laws?

Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota has asked a judge to prevent the state from suspending its license to perform abortions in Sioux Falls.

Planned Parenthood made the motion for a temporary restraining order in response to a letter it received Monday from the Department of Health.  The letter lists deficiencies found during an inspection of the clinic in May and states that the clinic is not following a 2005 law requiring women to be told abortion ends a human life.  The state gave Planned Parenthood until August 22 to submit a plan of correction.

Planned Parenthood is challenging the law and wants the judge to prevent the state from taking any action until she decides whether to rule on the lawsuit or move it to trial.

A human is someone who can eat, sleep and live on their own out of a womb. Get a grip.

Dumb

Only in SD would we pass a silly law like this;

A federal judge will hear arguments Friday in Sioux Falls over a lawsuit challenging a law that requires doctors to tell women seeking abortions that the procedure ends a human life.

My philosophy is this; abortion is legal. If you don’t like that, take it to the SC and try to get it overturned. These BS state laws that are ludicrous are only a waste of time. Though I am pro-choice, I do agree with pro-lifers that there is nothing in the Constitution that guarantees a woman’s right to choose, in fact there is nothing either way. I have often said this debate isn’t about law, religion or morality, it is about science. Prove when human life begins (I think it is when you are born) and then you would have a clear case. Neither side has been successful proving it. Until that happens, this debate is moot.

Promising Nothing

I hope the money laundering lawyer from Brandon has to reveal he name of the secret donor, though most of us already have a hunch who that person is.

The South Dakota secretary of state will go to court next month and ask a judge to force state Rep. Roger Hunt to reveal several key details about a corporation he created in the midst of a heated battle over abortion.

The corporation gave $750,000 to a group campaigning to ban abortion but refused to reveal who was behind the donations.

Hunt has said that he set up the corporation because the donor, whom he described as a South Dakota resident, feared violence if his or her identity were known.

Like I said above, it wouldn’t be to hard to figure out who that person is, if you really wanted to attack them. I’m assuming if they have $750,000 to throw at a wasted political effort, they have money to hire a bodyguard. Maybe they could hire the same one Leslee did (to protect her from extreme pro-lifers that were mad at her that her ban did not go far enough. I still find that ironically humorous.)

“I think it’s very important to understand that just because one side of this issue has drug this out as long as it has shouldn’t allow them to simply avoid complying with what the law was because they’re able to delay it for so long,” Nelson said Wednesday.

It seems Roger Hunt was hoping that it would just go away. You’d think a lawyer would know better.

But Steven Sanford, a Sioux Falls lawyer who represents Hunt, said in his view, the state’s pursuit of the donor’s identity “is of questionable value to anybody, but the state has its own interests, and the secretary of state seems to think it’s pretty important.”

Are you talking about the same state that Roger works for as a legislator in the same party that Nelson belongs to and has a majority in the state? Or maybe this is about soemthing else? The LAW perhaps?

Hunt referred questions about the case to his lawyer but said he’s surprised it has gone on this long.

“I, to be honest, am surprised that since this case deals with a statute that was repealed by the Legislature at the request of the secretary of state, that this case is still in the system.”

Yes, Roger, it is amazing that this day and age that courts are still trying to prosecute lawmakers of money laundering – the shame!
