Gov. Moose Drool; Still a dumb B#$%%@^&*(((&^%$$#H! (H/T- Mudflats & Hos)

I almost used the ‘C’ word, but I remembered Sarhoid like Dr. Pepper, not Coca-Cola;

During the ethics investigation of Sarah Palin now known as “Troopergate,” that phrase became seared into the collective consciousness of Alaskans.  Palin’s spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton used that word referring not to Palin, but to the former Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan.  Palin had pressured Monegan to fire her ex-brother in law Trooper Mike Wooten whose nasty divorce from Palin’s sister had left bitter feelings.  Monegan refused to fire him, and was subsequently dismissed by the governor, leaving the Department of Public Safety without leadership, and leaving many Alaskans with a bad taste in their mouths.

Like I have said in the past, The SE Fair makes money, as long as people are not stealing from them

This is great news, and does not surprise me, the SE Fair made good money this year, in a down economy;

It was nearly five months ago when the Sioux Empire Fair came to the county for financial help. Tuesday, interim fair CEO Tryg Fredrickson gave the county a check to pay back that $216,000 loan.

“We had a good year, wasn’t great. But we’re still in the hole, we’re not out of the hole. We still got a lot of work to work ourselves out of it,” Fredrickson said.

Fredrickson said the net income of the 70th annual fair was up considerably compared to 2008, but sponsorship money was down.

And finally, a public official states the obvious;

Matt Adamski, who apparently was either incompetent or just stupid, who at this point we know, and he knows, that the gifts that he received were bought with stolen money. I would urge him to return those gifts,” Barth said.

It’s about time someone started connecting the dots.

“I’m delighted that you’re able to make me eat my words and pay us back and we can continue on with the fair, so congratulations,” Kelly said.

And I will have to agree with Dick Kelly, Congrats! It’s kinda like being mugged, you can either hide in fear, or you can get out of bed the next morning and walk to the bus stop, the SE Fair decided to walk to the bus stop.

Texas schools move away from abstinence-only education: We don’t think it’s working. (H/T – Helga)

I wonder if Mrs. Unruh has seen this flowchart?

Texas currently has the third-highest teen birth rate in the country and “the highest rate of repeat teen births.” It also leads the nation in the amount of government money it spends on abstinence-only education. But some school districts in the state are now shifting away from that approach, admitting that it isn’t working:

“We mainly did it because of our pregnancy rate,” said Whitney Self, lead teacher for health and physical education at the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. “We don’t think abstinence-only is working.” […]

Both approaches to sex education teach that refraining from sexual activity is the safest choice for teens.

But abstinence-only gives limited information about contraceptives and condoms and tends to downplay their effectiveness, while abstinence-plus stresses the importance of using such protection if teens are sexually active.

Medical experts have stated concluded that not only do abstinence-only programs not curb teen pregnancy, but “there is evidence to suggest that some of these programs are even harmful and have negative consequences by not providing adequate information for those teens who do become sexually active.”

Will the drinking age get changed to 19? I guess we will know more tomorrow.

10-reasons-to-drink-beer-3

I can think of a few good reasons to change the drinking age to 19.

I have heard underlying inklings that this will be some major legislation next session;

He (Tim Rounds) says he plans to discuss the idea Tuesday when the Legislature’s interim Alcoholic Beverage Control and Licensing Committee meets in Pierre.

I have a feeling this meeting is taking place to get a feel for what the committee thinks of the idea. Hopefully there will be some news on this tomorrow.
