Of course, if this is true, and he won, the Royal River Casino could kill two birds with one stone.

I have heard vague rumblings that he is gearing up to run against Denny Doogard. Truth be told, if I had a choice, I would probably roll Huether. But like in the last governor election, I would probably vote for neither and leave the ballot blank.

When asked if he was going to run for mayor again in two years, he made no real promises.

This info comes from two sources;

Number one tells me about all the fundraising efforts of the SD Democratic Party concerning Huether and the recent push to get a Republican elected to the city council with Democrat’s money.

Number two tells me about the electronic mail fundraising efforts of the mayor.

Quite honestly, don’t know if either is true, the SD Democratic Party has been mysteriously quiet. Let’s just say Detroit Lewis is not on their mailing list 🙂 And that’s cool, because they are going to have to save all of their money for the Barth/Varilek race.

As for the Casino issue, I encourage the media and citizens to ask questions and demand answers. Is the mayor pursuing higher office? That is a cry for another day.

  1. No way anybody West River votes for a smarmy Sioux Falls Democrat. Probably nobody West of the Tea-Ellis road votes for him.

  2. “the recent push to get a Republican elected to the city council with Democrat’s money.”

Is there any proof of this? I know she was invited to speak at an event, but what money was spent on her?

  3. Roastbeef, just wait until you see the final money reports. It will tell part of the story, for most of the rest of the story read what l3wis has already published on this story. Facts are at there, the ‘dems’ did not staggers to win.

  4. I just don’t see it. His appeal within Sioux Falls isn’t stellar, so outside of it he would fare even worse. Add the fact he would run with a little “D” after his name in a VERY conservative state and the guy has zero chance.

It is bad enough we have a mayor who cries like a teenage girl after seeing Justin Bieber… but to have a governor who can’t control the tears? No thanks.

  5. JR – I wish someone would forward me some of the emails. I posted this for that appeal. I keep hearing ‘rumors’ about the effort, but until I see some emails, your guess is as good as mine.

BTW, it is no secret that MMM recruited Knudson and helped raise money for her, the missing link is whether the Dems helped Mike with this effort.

    Emails People! Emails!

  6. Ellis also brought up a good point to me the other day about city employee’s emails being public record, since they are using computer’s we own as taxpayers. He said this was how he got the CORP’s emails, public record. Would be interesting to see if you could make a similiar request from the city.

  7. Not surprised he would look to Gov. race, but I’d rather see the Dems roll out someone else. I will vote for anyone opposing Daugaard … but enthusiasm for Mayor Huether just isn’t gonna happen.

  8. His ego and his bully-like attitude is just enough that he actually would think he has a blue angels chance in hell of winning. I hope he runs. Campaigning on the reservation would do him good.

  9. I live in Sioux Falls and I consider Heuther “smarmy”, too. His voice, his appearance, his tearing up for no reason. However, given a choice I would have to vote for him over Daugaard

  10. Vote for neither, that is what I did in the last governor’s race. I left it blank, as well as Thune.

  11. I am not surprised Huether is thinking of running for governor in 2014. If he waits until 2018, he will be up against Mark Mickelson most likely.

The Tea Party mess within the SD Republican party makes Daugaard vulnerable in 2014. If the TP prevails in the upcoming Republican legislative primaries, Daugaard will be forced to run a coalition government with the remaining moderate Republicans and Democrats next January.

This reality will create an opening for Huether, which would be much more politically attractive for him than to wait to run against the late Governor’s son in 2018.

  12. Agreed, now can you get me some of these emails? Would really help with my effort . . .
