However, he did not VETO the resolution, so that means it will go in affect a week later on June 26. There could be some complications though. The administration still has to come up with a plan on how to administer it, so they could make it very convoluted so it is hard to use. The council has suggested making it very simple.
-You put an age limit on it that you can ride by yourself
-A parent or guardian must sign a waiver to get the dog tag making them aware you have the pass
-You get a dog tag that is similar to what the Augie students use
-When you get on the bus with the special tag, the bus driver simply presses a button saying you are part of the youth ridership program.
Someone asked me if they don’t have the tag or lost it if they could still get the ride. A friend suggested to me that maybe they could use a password to the driver to get the free ride, something like ‘My Man Mike’ 
Hopefully the transit administration will be cooperative and not turn it into a big hassle to get the passes.
Somebody mentioned to me the other day that perhaps this was looked at as a handout to the kids. I don’t look at it that way at all, besides the economic impact factor, adult parents as well as kids pay sales taxes on everything they purchase in our city, so while they may not be paying for the ride up front, they are still contributing to the tax base that funds the transit system. It’s no different than using our bike trails for free as far as I am concerned.

Hypocrisy in the HIGHEST order. Everything Huether has accomplished was through that very approach.
I will be the first to say I think this project is wonderful, and I don’t give a flying monkey who gets credit. It will be a shot in the arm for jobs in Sioux Falls and the region, and a perfect location for the project.
But while this project was in the works for 3 years, why so many secrets?

So while land sale deals were being done, state, city and development organizations were wheeling and dealing, no one thought it would have been a good idea to clue people in?
So while the officials involved took their sweet ass time working on this (I heard it was closer to five years) they now are expecting the Sioux Falls City Council to make a decision on annexation as soon as June 9, a decision that would ultimately cost us millions in infrastructure costs for years to come.
What’s the rush?
I highly suggest and recommend the city council studies the annexation proposal thoroughly before making a decision.
My roommate for over 11 years, and 3 months said goodbye to me yesterday.
Sodapop, named after a character from my favorite book ‘The Outsiders’ went peaceful, and did not suffer. We were fortunate enough to spend the past weekend together listening to Jazz (he loved Coltrane). Taking a lazy Saturday afternoon nap, perusing Falls Park (his favorite place besides his personal swimming pool at 8th and Phillips-the old horse drinking fountain). Playing one last game of ‘ball’ with one of the many Wilson tennis balls we snag at McKennan Park. And a drive around town so he could get one last ‘sniff’.
A horny, stinky, man to the end.
Sodapop never behaved well but loved everyone and always had a big grin for anyone who wanted to be his bud, I never tried to change him, wild man to the end, and I never apologized for his behavior.
He had many great friends, especially Hank Dog, Kirby and Robert the cat, and he loved to dance, mostly for any naive kid that mistaken his leg humping for the Salsa.
Apparently he ‘Hugs on the wrong side’.
I will miss your stinky butt. The only entity more inappropriate then me, and he always did it with a smile and a ball lick.
While he had some infamous attributes, Sodapop hardly ever barked at anyone (except me) and he never bit or attacked anyone, he truly wanted to be everyone’s friend. I’ve never had a pet who so genuinely wanted to be everyone’s friend, I miss that about him the most. While some people’s pets are stuck up, mean, finicky or irritable, he always showed love towards others (sometimes a little too much) even though he was uncomfortable at the end, he never showed it.
He always knew when I was down about something, and would always comfort me. He had an amazing pulse on what I was doing.
Soda was fortunate enough to join me for the Unity Concert last Fall in the Black Hills where he was the co-pilot of Uncle Bruce’s old camper RV. It was his greatest adventure, and he truly loved it.
