SMG Events Center Manager, Terry Torkildson thinks the siding is a ‘publicity stunt’

tt

The ‘Visually (un)Interesting’ manager of the Events Center

Terry was the guest on  the Argus Leader Media’s SU FU STUpid show yesterday (FF: 24:50, in the video section of the website). Terry was asked about the EC siding, and he had an out at first,

“. . . Well the city owns the building . . . it’s their deal . . .”

Okay, I’m fine with that, he just manages the joint, he isn’t in charge of those things, fair enough. Oh, but Terry couldn’t resist to make just a few more comments,

“. . . I know I have been criticized in the past for saying this, but I think the building looks visually interesting . . .”

I guess if Terry thinks bent up forced straight steel, that has massive gaps and calk and rust stains pouring down it is ‘visually interesting’ I have a 1972 trailer home I would like to sell him. Trust me Terry, it’s not a dump, it’s just visually interesting. Maybe that is why Ford sold so many Pintos? He goes on to compare it to the Pinnacle Center (which has the same bent up affect) then concludes that is the ‘nature of steel’. Yeah, flat (not rolled) steel that is forced to bend on the building.

Though he admits at the beginning of his rant that it’s the city’s ‘deal’ he all of a sudden turns into an engineer,

“. . . the siding is water tight . . . we have had no problems with it . . .”

YET.

He concludes the whole problem has to do with the ‘messenger’ and not the actual shitty installation job,

“. . . I think it just some people stirring the pot . . . trying to get publicity for themselves . . .”

I was unaware that SF City Councilor Rex Rolfing was trying to create publicity for himself. You know, the person who brought this to the public’s attention. Before Rex even said anything, it wasn’t even on mine or the public’s radar. Terry should be careful of accusing elected officials trying to create publicity.

Terry sure had a lot to say about the siding, even though it’s the city’s ‘deal’, He must know a lot more then he is putting on. A week and a half to go and spin machine has kicked in.

My prediction is that it will not get fixed and our compensation will be on paper only and not in the form of an actual cash deduction.

Looks like the Police were jealous someone else was getting a FREE meal

When I see photos like this, I often wonder why we need to hire more police. Five patrol cars respond to a stolen sandwich. I have often said we need to focus on ‘quality’ over ‘quantity’ when it comes to our officers. We need to have a police force that focuses on being proactive on crime instead of sitting around in their cars waiting for someone to steal a sandwich.

My guess is that the cops wanted to search the car for drugs when all they found was a club sub.

SD Democratic Party ED confirms it, Elvis has left the building

Wow, I am starting to sound like Pitty Patt more every day, God help me! I got word last week that besides the Chair of the party, there was only one other volunteer at the party office, and only one paid staff, the new ED, Suzie Jones Pranger. The other two paid staffers have left, Pranger confirms it in an email today;

Hello! I am Suzanne Jones Pranger, the new Executive Director of the South Dakota Democratic Party. As we continue to gear up for the 2016 Election, we need your help! The Party is looking to hire two new staff members to help propel us to success on Election Day, but we cannot do this without your support.

The South Dakota Democratic Party is hiring a new Field and Data Director and is planning to expand our staff with the addition of a Communications Director who will interact with the press, produce daily content on social media, spread the Democratic message, and help our candidates win in 2016!
I’m still puzzled how the SD Democratic party is going to rebuild itself with two volunteers and a newly hired Executive Director (who because of her previous Federal job wasn’t involved in the party much over the past couple of years). I will say this, Pranger has a good resume, and Tornberg is a fighter, but you don’t fight a forest fire with 1-gallon pail of water. If there are any Democrats in the state still loyal to the party’s mission, I suggest they join in the fight.
And I am talking about seasoned Democrats, not recent college grads that hop around from job to job to build their resume instead of building the credibility of the party. That has where I have seen the SD Democratic party crumble over the past 5-10 years, paying greenhorns to do the jobs of seasoned politicos, and not making them accountable for their poor results. I would suggest from now on you offer them volunteer positions to prove themselves first before putting them on the payroll.
I’m afraid that 2016 is going to be another disappointing year for the Dems unless they build the party first, from inside out, and stop worrying about petitions and Facebook games.
