As I have stated in the past, the city doesn’t need to spend any money on marketing our city. We have given the Development and Community Foundation and CVB millions over the years to do just that; MARKET SIOUX FALLS. These organizations exist solely for that purpose, so why would the city have a separate contract;

And just look at the vendor, this is what they specialize in;

Make it easy for your customers to shop directly from their feeds. Sprout’s social commerce solution integrates social media into your sales funnel to offer faster customer service and sell instantly.

They specialize in social media marketing for major retailers. When will our city leaders figure our that city government isn’t a business? And if I have one more rich POS in Sioux Falls tell me government needs to run like a business and we need a CEO as a mayor, I am going to just remain silent and walk away.

  1. Scott,

    I agree with you on this topic, we can get rid of many of these payouts to non profits and out of town organizations.

    However, under the charter, you got to think of the current city government as a “Territorial Government” acting a as a subcontractor to provide services to the landowners, property holders, townships, the people.

  2. Most of the time I agree with you.

    However, Sprout Social is really just a social media feed to bring all of the various social media mentions of a “company” or “organization” into one feed for the social media manager to be able to post to more than one at a time, or to respond to comments from one location instead of having to login to every social media outlet individually. The price is ridiculous, but it all depends on how many feeds they are pushing in and how many “organizations” they are dealing with.

    The company sells it differently than many companies and non-profits I have worked for use it.

  3. They voted for it anyway. Hey, I get what they do, that is NOT the issue. Why can’t we hire a local firm? Was an RFP put out? What does our media department do? Sign purchase agreements instead actually doing the work yourself? You would be better off hiring a full-time social media person. Even with benefits and salary it would be less.
