Like IM 22 that was a similar measure, I think W will only pass by a small margin. But what I have found interesting is the opposition to W. While I would expect a simple campaign of just ‘Vote NO on W’, I have found the opposition to be quite ironic. Some of the opposition include;
SD Chamber of Commerce
Retailers Association
SD League of (Anti-Citizens) Cities
Several SD State Legislators on both sides of the aisle.
Should it surprise ANY of us that the biggest lobbyists in the State and Legislators are against this? Their opposition only enforces the reason why WE need this. Citizens need independent protections from legislative corruption. Nothing like that exists.
Are there some issues with ‘W’? Sure, but tweaks can be made along the way. I’m not one who thinks we need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I think we need to go whole hog on this and pass it and deal with those tweaks later.
It is way overdue, we NEED anti-corruption rules in place in Pierre. This should have been done 50 years ago.
I was disappointed to see Karen Soli commercial against Amendment W. She will not be getting my District 15 vote in the future.
When the legislature is in session, there’s more lobbyists than representatives. Isn’t this the best sign that it’s time for regulation?
I have spent decades voting in every election. I have a long memory when it comes to the South Dakota Legislature going against the will of the people they represent.
I will be voting YES on W.

I remember a few years ago, someone commented on this blog on how Soli told Democratic Forum goers that she was neither pro-life nor pro-choice, rather she was in-between…. Seriously? How can one be in-between on abortion, especially when you are an elected official?….
I think most people are pro-choice and either don’t know it, or don’t understand it. When you start bringing up health of a mother, fetuses with half a brain or uncle Bob raping his 12 year old Niece, people suddenly become pro-choice.
Don’t you love it, when people start making acceptions for rape and incest when it comes to abortion…. But I thought those people said it was “murder”……. (Oh, I get it…. It must be like when you elect conservatives to be presidency, then they kill through unjust wars, and or lie to get into war, but they still call the war justified …. #NowIGetIt)
Tweaks cannot be made along the way with a constitutional amendment. Huge amount of signatures needed to get it on the ballot and if X passes, 55% majority needed. This is a bad way to enact policy.
Yeah, because our corrupt Republican majority legislature that has used model legislation from the KOCH brothers are so much better at enacting policy. LOL. This is exactly the reason why we need Amendment W. VOTE YES!
I’ll tell you what is bad. Bad is repealing an anti-corruption bill right after the people, the people, voted it in; and then that same legislature (“House of Lords”) had the audacity to game the system by using the courts and the legislative body as a unique plantiff, and in so doing abused and violated the balance of powers and separation of powers doctrines of our state constitution…. Now that is what is bad!
