I thought I was going to have to wait at least a couple of weeks before I started my tabulation of Events Center cost overruns, but looks like they will start this coming Monday (Item #13)

Some would say that $50 grand ain’t alot of cash, but do you know I could pay off my credit debt and 75% of my house with that much money.

16 Thoughts on “The cost overruns have already begun on the new EC

Here’s another resolution for Monday night authorizing EC construction and “associated site improvements”: http://docs.siouxfalls.org/sirepub/cache/2/ztiid345wgzb4oyxbrey0n55/1865881110201112061473.PDF.

Question – how far reaching are those “associated site improvements”? Will it include the redesign and reconstruction of the existing Arena parking? Will it include the new parking lots on school district grounds? Will it include asphalting over diamond 9 at McCart Fields for parking? Will it include widening Madison Street to five-lane traffic, as Councilor Entenman has talked about (but its never been included in any public plans)? Will it include any of those skywalks-to-nowhere that were proposed in some of the designs?

What exactly makes up “The Project” as defined in the resolution? I doubt even the sponsors know.

  2. Indeed. It’s amazing to me that sums of money that large are more or less rounding errors. If I just opened the mailbox and got a check for $50K, it would quite literally change my life.

  3. After watching the progress of this for the past six years, I was thinking I could “give this up”…………….

BUT, it appears that citizens may need to be even more vigilant about the numbers now……..

Because REMEMBER we were told over and over again that NOTHING in the CIP would be taken away or delayed because of the events center project!!

(**I’m going to have to go back and take a closer look at my CIP budget books for the past few years. I have all of the unabridged versions!!)

The next 22 YEARS could get very interesting……..!!!

All I know is we just need to BUILD IT NOW. Sioux Falls has lost out on another headliner: http://www.swiftelcenter.com/details_tml.php?event=379&fl=1.

BTW, wasn’t he just at the Cornfield Casino less than 3 months ago?!? Did he buy a home here or what?

  6. His audience could now fit into the Pavilion.

  7. next time doo rag wig comes to town it will be at the vault.

  8. They need to start filming ‘Rock of Love’ here in SF.

  9. CR – Would love to see the numbers.

  10. He’s become this generation’s Head East.

Anybody catch this on KELO last night: http://www.keloland.com/NewsDetail6162.cfm?Id=123425? I like how Sullivan is going to determine what the market can bear for ticket prices. And no mention of their plan to add a couple bucks to every ticket for a new “parking fee” to pad the bottom line.

“…tours just drive past us right now…” Pat Benatar and her family were spotted having dinner at Foley’s (sorry Scott) in August, so I guess he has a point. She was on her way to a gig in Deadwood.

Still waiting for the announcement on Pheasant Fest!

  12. Pat Benatar??? She could play street dances at this point!

She did, Scott … in Deadwood.

    Here’s a working link to KELO’s story: http://www.keloland.com/NewsDetail6162.cfm?Id=123425

  14. So now they think they can charge more for admission because the facility is bigger? LMFAO!

  15. That will be a shocker to those who believed the myth that more seats equal cheaper tickets.

  16. It’s like seeing some of my favorite alt bands in a club it costs $15-$20 for an advance ticket, but if I would see the same band at the Pavilion it would be $35-$40.
