UPDATE: So I attended this FORUM yesterday (I was able to catch up on emails and take in a quick 10 minute cat nap). Yes, it was that boring. What I took away;

• The new prison must have transition programming before prisoners get released. A time frame from 90 days to up to a year may help the recidivism rate.

• Released inmates NEED a support system when released. In other words, a place to live and help with job training and employment.

If we invest in these two things the taxpayers would save millions in recidivism costs.

The panel was made of 13 participants with Mayor Poops on the panel with Greg Jamison moderating. During the entire forum Poops constantly looked at his watch (who wears watches?) and looked extremely pissed, frowning the entire time. Which is weird because when Daniel Haggar, Hansen and Whittman presented testimony, they were smiling and trying to make light of what we need to do. But it gets better. As public comment started (which was at the last 15 minutes of the event) Paul was the only panelist to walk out and skip public comment. I just laughed, typical Paul, my time is more important then anyone from the public.

Safer Sioux Falls Forum will be on July 22nd, 10:00 am at the Pavilion in the Belbas Theater.

All local law enforcement agencies, DOC Parole Manager, UJS, Minnehaha County States Attorney, Assistant Attorney General, city council leadership and council members, mayor, police chief Minnehaha and Lincoln County sheriffs are all participating.  All Sioux Falls legislators have been invited and many are attending.

The intent of the Safer Sioux Falls forum is to address issues that have been raised about having a prison in our city.

The first question is to the mayor/police chief about what impacts they feel from having a prison here.

If potential positive outcomes/funding… can be found that we support, my hope is that we could bring them to our special session and have them considered as part of the action we take.

The 22nd was chosen because it works with the mayor/police chief and sheriff first, but also because the 22nd was set aside for our special session.

We should be done by 11:30 am.

Please feel free to contact me with thoughts/ideas or concerns.

  1. Will the doors be locked during this forum, or will people be allowed to come and go as they please?

I also still wish that they would have built the new prison between Harrisburg and Canton, and that the Gorilla Project had been completed near Elk Point, too, so that way a guy could have booked a tour bus to those two locations in one day, and then a beautiful dinner afterwards in Sioux City before returning home to Soo Foo. Such a tour could have been called “Confined, Refined, and Wine & Dined.”

  2. maybe the state could house tick tock in the new prison, and the prisoners would run it.

  3. But who would run TikTok every time the prisoners lose their tablets? Or, would it then default to Warden Gordon Borden?

  4. The theme of this meeting was apparently, “OK, Sioux Falls is going to ‘take one for the team’ by hosting the new prison, but we’re going to need a sweetener, a lil’ sumthin, sumthin from the state in exchange for our troubles”.

  5. But has Sioux Falls been asking for this for years, and if not, why not? It’s like a spouse all a sudden asking for new carpet when the old carpet has been tolerated for years. #WhatsTheProblem

  6. VSG,
Great point about all of that for the years in the past.
However, in the present, the spouse has just had curtailed by the other spouse (the State of SD) his/her/their ability to collect an allowance from those who live in his/her/their fiefdom (e.g. can’t raise the real estate tax “rent” on landowners). The spouse has also learned that the other spouse has squirreled away a handsome amount in excess (again this year) after paying all of their household bills.
The modern spouse, being a tax and spend variety of spouse, sees tax revenue unspent and is looking for an equitable transfer and use of the surplus, which the other spouse is consistently generating, in order to include in his/her/their spending plans.

  7. Why the frown/grimce? Progressive Paulie is in the unusual position of needing to justify additional money into City coffers in order that he can spend it (in this case, because collection of any additional funding from the State would arrive after his term is complete, he likely won’t even get to spend it).
He is accustomed to a process by which he just takes the money from landowners in the form of increased property taxes and then spends it as he and the City employees (oh, and the oligarchs who own our City government) choose.
This is groveling for Progressive Paulie. And Paulie hasn’t had to/doesn’t grovel for anything.

Walking out on Public Input? I hope everybody in the political realm of this State who was in attendance took note. This guy is not cut out for political office. Janklow could get away with that. PTH cannot.

“… who wears watches?” Oh boy, if that was not a digital smart watch, I’m afraid the chronicle of your blog would reveal the answer to that question. Self-important people who want to conspicuously display the fact they spend a lot of money on ice to place on their wrist.
I suspect Mayor MisTaken has the most recent edition of an Apple smart watch which is totally connected to his digital world. Each glance was likely a notice of something from his digital world. Perhaps something as inocuous as an email received. Given his previous role as a digital spook for the Rounds for Senate campaign, perhaps a notification that some anonymous roustabout just posted a comment critical of PTH on a local blog.
