Nice Harley shirt.

UPDATED: Entenman must have gotten the message, at today’s informational he thanked the air show and the air national guard for bringing in the event. But, he couldn’t resist to wear a Harley shirt. Snark on me Diamond Jim.

As I have mentioned before, councilor Entenman usually wears Harley gear to the council meetings (in essence advertising his business on publicly funded televised meetings).

He may have gone over the top at the air show yesterday when asked to comment on behalf of the city, the mayor and city council, in which he did a presentation comparing Harley-Davidson motorcycles to the evolution of modern aeronautics. His business sponsorship aside (J & L helped sponsor the event) he was speaking on behalf of the city, not his business.

Jim also sits on Sanford’s board of directors (this is why he frequently steps out on votes – usually due to Sanford involvement).

This man has way too many conflicts of interest and must resign. I warned people about this when he was running for office. Jim does things to benefit Jim, and him serving as a city councilor has proven this.

So if the the events center gets named the ‘S’ word at the ground breaking, do you think Jim will be giving a speech? Probably, while sitting on a Harley-Davidson no doubt.

22 Thoughts on “UPDATED: Why does Entenman continue to advertise his personal business in his capacity as city councilor?

A true conflict of interest is where he would benefit from a decision he votes upon. Making a public statement doesn’t exactly qualify.

I was at a performance of the Symphony this past year where Vernon Brown got up on stage to brag about SDN Communications and how they were sponsoring the performance. He isn’t the President of CEO of SDN, he isn’t a publicist, and he isn’t in communications. Do you think he would have been there giving his little plug if he wasn’t a city councilor at the time?

I use this as en example to show how people cannot totally separate their personal and professional lives. There is ALWAYS overlap, and it works both directions. I’m sure there has been many times where Dr. Staggers has had to reference his time on the city council when giving a lecture just as there have been times he references his duties at USF while acting in an official capacity as a councilor.

In fact, most of these guys even brag about their personal accomplishments while running for office. Dr. Staggers ensured his position at USF and his education was prominently displayed within his marketing materials just as some of the others bragged about their respective businesses or church affiliations. That is how it works.

Give Diamond Jim a break – he was using a metaphor based upon what he knows, and chances are he doesn’t know a whole lot about aeronautics and the history of aircraft. If this is your basis to say the guy should resign, I’m not sure we have a single member of the council who should remain.

  3. Well, most of them do have several conflicts of interest, but I don’t have time to go into that.

Well – they could just be full-time professional politicians – but the salary won’t support it. Except for the Mayor’s of course.

Is it “tacky” and unsophisticated? Sure, what about 99% of SD isn’t?

  5. Even though I am not a fan of Vernon he is SDN’s spokesperson.

  6. I just talked to another eyewitness of the spectacle. They told me at no time did Jim acknowledge he was a representative of the city. Or did he explain why the mayor was there, or introduce other city officials. He also did not thank the organizers for such a great event. Just talked about Harleys.

  7. correction ‘the mayor WASN’T there’

  8. The Mayor opted to compete in a tennis tournament over being the City’s Ambassador for the Air Show……..??!!

  9. He is probably regretting that decision 🙂

The mayor has all the power. Council votes are to make things look democratic. Removing Entenman is Harley worth it. I predict Denny Sanford will not want his name associated with the ‘Evidence Center’. Nobody wants to be associated with Huether corruption.

Evidence Center. Where’s my 100k. No problem, Ill give Huether half in a paper bag with unmarked small bills.

The mayor wouldn’t enjoy the air show. Playing with your balls makes you go blind.

Justin. Hate is a pretty strong word. I do not hate mike huether. At the same time I have zero respect for the guy. Much as you used Ripoff Report to tell us about daniels, I can do the same for the guy who marketed the worst credit card scam going.

I know about first premier than you can imagine, and I don’t have any problem with them. All you ever had to do was say you didn’t understand it and they gave your money back.

Dollar loan center charges 10x the apr and is still allowed to operate. And I saw an online payday lender sponsored by the octomom (octoloan) advertised locally.

What a step up for society. Thank for we got the poor on 1000% interest instead of 100%.

I’d like to hear more about your “knowings” regarding FP Bankcard. Based on what I’ve read from Ripoff Report and other sites, the place is a scam pond…PERIOD. Did you take the time to read some of the 521 complaints on file with Ripoff Report? Nowhere do I get the feeling that if one does not understand it, they will give you your money back. Enlighten us if it is any different than the testimonials I have read from Ripoff.

    I guess they didn’t ask.

I used to be an investment banker to banks and credit card companies and they were the top performer with the best practices. 521 accounts for them is nothing and if those people paid their principal back all of the fees would be forgiven if they said they didn’t understand the offer. That is their policy. They record all phone calls with people and archive them. I’m not sure they tell people that is an option, but as far as I know they have never been sued and lost.

Good luck trying that with Dollar Loan Center.

  18. Time to put the hat back on and tell Tex I’ll take it off as soon as Diamond Jim takes off his shirt.

Justin your post #17 is an outright lie! First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard have been sued plenty and lost plenty! Also if you are really an investment banker you no have clue what due diligence is then and whoever you worked for might want to go back over your work to make sure it was done right. Look at this case:

  21. I encourage you to read the link that “Truth” has provided.

It is all information we have known about the way in which First Premier has operated (article is dated 2007)….

BUT it takes on much more meaning when the names T. Denny Sanford and Mike Huether are currently having such a heavy impact on our community!!!

Works both ways for Entenman. I don’t own a Harley because he represents them. Business & politics should be separate like politics & religion.
