It was 12 below zero in Pierre on January 9, 2010. I glanced over to see Capitol Lake as exceptionally beautiful this day. so I couldn’t resist stopping to “play photographer.â€Â In those few minutes, my fingers became numb. I had stopped to have a little fun, but stood in silence before leaving with a deeper respect for our great American soldiers. The Korean War Memorial in Washington is also somewhat eerie. It reflects a certain battle where troops are entering in fog up along a ridge in cold weather not knowing either side of the ridge is overwhelmed with enemy.
Probably the eeriest place in the country is Gettysburg. Some 100,000 died a slow death. I don’t believe in ghosts but when the wind picks up, it sure sounds like you can hear moaning.
I went into Cambodia with 2 green berets and a platoon of mercenaries (20+). When there was a firefight, the job of the berets was to lay backwards on the berm and shoot mercenaries who ran.
