I have no regrets voting for Thomas Marking, especially after reading this article

Marking points out the obvious;

“I think that was probably the third-best choice,” Marking said this week of the winner, Kristi Noem.

And he adds;

Marking said he will not run for national office again unless the rules change and there is public financing of campaigns. Having $10,000 to compete with millions just isn’t worthwhile, he said.

“Not until the rules change and there’s a chance for a fair fight,” Marking said. “There’s no point. It means a lot of good people who could be representing us in D.C. don’t bother running.”

I have often said public financing of campaigns would level the playing field. Nowadays, it is who has the biggest checkbook. Noem spent twice as much as Steffy, she won. Huether spent almost 3x more then Staggers, he won. The proof is in the pudding. Publicly finance elections, and the rich and powerful will quit running, and we will get REAL candidates.

Noem in a leadership position?! Hopefully it is not on the transportation committee.

Yes kiddies, this is how politics work in Washington. It’s who yah know (Thune) not what yah know. I look forward to her being in a leadership position, it will prove just how ‘bright’ her star is.

I also got a kick out of Candy referring to her as a tea partier. Even though throughout the campaign she denied it. Just keep up the wink and nod Kristi. One of these days were gonna nail you on your hypocrisy.

The road doesn’t have to be bumpy – Mike

So, Mike, you are losing some sleep over the Events Center debate?

“As painful and as trying as this process is, and yes I’m losing some sleep over it, in the end it’s all going to be worth it. This city will be able to celebrate, and this state will be able to enjoy the good things Sioux falls has been able to accomplish,” Huether said.

Did you lose any sleep while you were making millions from taking advantage of the financially ignorant?

Ironically this could all be over and done with if you would just put it on the ballot already. I hear a ton of debate and discussion, but not once have a heard when it is going to be on the ballot and the language of that ballot.

I think you are enjoying all this fuss.

THE RUMOR MILL

A little birdy told me yesterday that Mayor Huether isn’t a fan of Meghan Luther, the city politics reporter from the Argus Endorser. I guess he didn’t take to kindly to her recent ‘Build it Downtown’ article. Is our mayor trying to manipulate the media by being a bully? Not sure. More to come on this topic.

Two SD cities get it, provide citizens with services they pay for with tax dollars

First Spearfish;

SPEARFISH — Tuesday’s general election in Spearfish settled a debate over snow-removal practices, but city officials said Wednesday that residents had better prepare for changes to when the streets get plowed.

The new ordinance prohibits city plowing crews from pushing snow into private driveways while cleaning streets after a snowfall. Currently, plows can push snow from the street, which can block driveways along the route. Residents frequently become frustrated when they shovel a path from the garage to the street, only to find the city has plowed it shut later during the day.

Maybe we should put it on the ballot in Sioux Falls – then we can stop hearing excuses from the Public Works department. Put up or shut up.

And in Brandon;

The Brandon City Council has decided that the city will take care of trimming trees that are in the boulevard; that is, between the sidewalk and the street. The council is so committed to this that they are reimbursing everyone for the last two years who paid for this service themselves, whether the city did the work and billed the resident, or whether the resident hired a private company to do the work.

The council reasons that the boulevard is city property; therefore, the trees are city responsibility.

That last line is important, it has been my reasoning all along. Don’t trim the boulevard trees and don’t pay the fine, the city has no constitutional right to charge you to take care of their property.
