Interested in running for the SF city council?

Let’s pretend for a moment you are young, intelligent, spunky and interested in politics. Let’s also say you are thinking about running for city council against a popular incumbent.

Without name recognition, and, well, a good chunk of change, your chances are not very good. This was proven in several of the past council races results.

But what if a (somewhat) popular political group offered to raise money for you like a PAC or similar group? Would you take the money?

I guess it would depend on the group? Obviously, you probably wouldn’t want the KKK or the He-Man Women Haters club helping you with fundraising. But this group isn’t ‘That’ bad 🙂

Supposedly such an offer was made in the past election – but nobody is talking. And this is really the heart of the story. If this really took place, why hide it? It is perfectly legal for political groups to help candidates raise money. Why all the secrecy? Was city hall involved? Good question.

Loose lips sink ships I guess.

So yes, this another SouthDaCola non-story that I thought I would aggravate you with.

South DaCola Endorsement: Jeff Barth for US Congress

I have thought about this for awhile. Have Jeff and I had our disagreements? Oh, yeah. But there is one thing I like about Barth, he speaks his mind, and believes what he believes. He is an Old Skool Democrat and liberal.

Someone asked me the other day, “Who has a better chance of beating Noem?” I said, Varilek of course, but let’s face the facts, neither one will be able to beat the Republican money machine and the West River podunks who love a congressperson in tight Wrangler jeans. I don’t want to see either Barth or Varilek in tight jeans, heck, I don’t even want to see them in a Snuggie. But I do want whoever runs against Noem to needle the heck out of her.

So why Jeff Barth?

Because he will truly question her on her record and won’t let her slither away. Varilek, not so much.

Don’t vandalize art (even if it is boring)

(IMAGE: KELO-TV)

People, I know all to well what it feels like to get my art vandalized, not a good feeling, and just ask how the guy who vandalized it felt after having to cut me a check for $1,250?

The organization is asking for help, offering a $1,000 reward for information about who broke the statues.

I’m looking for yah!

I do want to give SculptureWalk a word of advice, in the future you should pick sculptures that are more durable and have less intricate and delicate parts. Bronzes can be easily bent and broke. While I do think that this was blatant vandalism, there is nothing stopping a curious child from trying to bend delicate pieces and accidentally breaking them.

Why the rule change? Just follow the open meeting laws to begin with.

So let’s add another layer of rules that the city attorney can find a way to wiggle out of;

In the future, the City Council will have to name an employee and the action being taken against the employee. Pfeifle says going forward, city leaders intend to be as open as possible.

Wasn’t that what you were supposed to do to begin with?
