What was the city council’s leading excuse as to why we couldn’t have a Snowgate election this past Spring? They claimed if snowgates were approved they would have to implement them by November of this year, certain councilors said that wasn’t possible because they didn’t appropriate money, not only for a joint election with the school board but they didn’t have ANY money to buy and use snowgates. Yeah, right, but somehow magically they found an extra $7 million for the streets (DOC: appropriation);
Streets General Fund $7,288,000
The most amazing part is how they can lie straight face during a recorded public meeting. Nothing to see here, move along. It was a politically motivated move all along by councilor Erpenbach, and when you run out of truthful excuses (in which they didn’t have any) you lie.
I’ve often wondered if citizens in Urpbucket’s district are mentally challenged. Who voted for her, pickleball players?
A. Your link doesn’t work.
B. I’d assume there is more to the story than simply “lying” to you about the snowgate election. I’m not defending their decision because I strongly disagree with it, but I’m also not going so far as to claim their logic equates to blatant dishonesty. Adding funds to street repairs may have occurred due to changes in the next fiscal year’s budget, they may have taken funds from another area, or they may have increased it based upon anticipated sales tax receipts.
There are many reasons why they may have funds to repair streets (and/or buy a projector for a state theater etc.) but not have been in a position to fund a special election and/or purchase and install snowgates. If I were a betting man I’d say this has a lot more to do with logistics than it does dishonesty, but I’ll admit I’m not nearly as cynical as many.
“Adding funds to street repairs may have occurred due to changes in the next fiscal year’s budget, they may have taken funds from another area, or they may have increased it based upon anticipated sales tax receipts.”
EXACTLY what I am getting at. They claimed they didn’t appropriate for snowgates, which is the truth, BUT what they didn’t say is that they can ‘appropriate’ whenever they want to, just like they did with these street repairs and STATE theatre projector. They tried to make it sound like the budget was ‘locked’ once they approve it, which is telling only half the truth. Their ‘logistics’ argument is also another ‘half-truth’. They claim they award contracts for snow removal in January for the NEXT winter’s work. So if snowgates get approved next Spring, won’t they have to reissue those contracts since they already awarded them in January? There was a lot more Bullshit spread during that meeting and even more censorship.
A. Your link works fine.
B. As long as erpie, aggie, karskie, and diamond jim are on this council I’ll buy into the dishonesty over logistics ANY day of the week.
