The difference between Rapid City and Sioux Falls, well at least in perspective
Stormland TV gives me one thing, stark irony. First the new mayor of Rapid City comments on The Summer Nights Music Festival;
Despite some problems, Allender likes the way Summer Nights builds community.
“You can have a homeless person standing three feet away from a millionaire and they’re both enjoying the music and tapping their foot and maybe even talking,” he said. “I’ve never been to an event anywhere near that, that closeness and that bringing people together.”
Then there is Rob Joyce’s comments on JazzFest (he is the leader of SF Jazz & Blues Society);
“I step up on stage and I see young people, teenagers, young kids sitting with grandparents or sitting with people who are much older. And they’re all enjoying the same afternoon. They’re all enjoying the same music,” said Joyce.
Hey, but if you go walk along the Big Poo after dark to take a hit on a left-handed cigarette, you might find some homeless dancing (or sleeping). Millionaires not welcome.
UPDATE: Sioux Falls City Council work session today to talk about ‘Pool rates’
The meeting will be at Carnegie Hall at 4 PM Downtown. I enjoy the work sessions because it is a pretty open forum where sometimes people from the public attending can participate. They usually hold the meeting in the foyer.
UPDATE: Many things occurred at the work session (hope to have a video up soon). One thing was clear at the end of the meeting, the indoor aquatic center is NOT being built for the same users as the outdoor pools.
I was able to address the council and dispel a couple of things discussed, I told them;
1) Our pool rates CANNOT be compared to other communities in South Dakota, our sales tax base is totally different because of our retail.
2) User fees increases (which I support) should be based on inflation, not pulling numbers out of the sky like the administration and some council members did today
3) Keep the free pool passes for the poor, but ask for a free will donation when they acquire them.
Paramedic’s Plus (former) employee accused of stealing $44 from a dead lady
WOW! I guess the ‘Cadillac’ most expensive ambulance service we just gave a contract to pays their EMT’s so well they have to allegdley steal petty cash from dead people;
While investigating the money’s disappearance, police found $44 in cash in one of the emergency responder’s backpack. Clemens says that was similar to the amount the officer first noticed by the wallet.
Yeah, but is it really a crime to steal from a dead person? Ask James Brown about time he stole shoes from a dead man.
Thumbs up to the police officer who caught the incident. Besides, they don’t have to steal petty cash from people, they already get free lunches.
The EMT, who has not been identified, was employed by Paramedics Plus. Company officials tell KSFY News that he no longer works for the company.
“What this is, this person just made a bad choice,” Clemens said. “It was his decision alone. It was not reflective of the agency he works for.”
Ah, yes it is. What kind of background checks is this company doing? What kind of wages are they paying that they are so desperate they have to take $44 from a dead person? What kind of ethics training are the EMT’s receiving? I think Paramedic’s Plus owes the public an explanation of how this happened.
