Is the Minnehaha County Commission chair financially encouraging subversion of the city council with Erin Srstka?

The word on the street is that the women in POWER in Sioux Falls, are going to make Erin Srstka the next (female) power house in city government. The problem? She has a lot of conflicts.

Not just the fact that she works as a full time county employee while applying to be a part-time city employee, she also has some interesting donors to her cause.

I guess it shouldn’t surprise us that Steve Erpenbach (Michelle’s husband) gave money (She is the one telling everyone she is going to make Erin a star, all the while borrowing her husband’s wallet 🙂

But what is really creepy is the chair of the Minnehaha County Commission who doesn’t even live in Sioux Falls is giving money (she also couldn’t give from her own purse).

Not sure why these two ladies are so heck bent on getting Erin elected to city council they are ignoring the conflicts of interest, but we should be concerned. Remember, Cindy Heiberger lead the charge on the ultra secretive appointment of Jean Bender to the County Commission, and Michelle lead the charge to get our last city clerk fired. They are the last two women I want recruiting council candidates no matter their color, weight or sex.

Sioux Falls city council race update

Not to much brewing right now, but a few tidbits from the street;

• The candidates posted their latest financials, and it looks like John Paulson is in the lead, but he also has a good donor list 🙂 He also has been blabbing to anyone who will listen about how great his neighborhood is (McKennan Park). I would agree, I live only a few blocks away in McKennan Flats. Not sure if he knows a whole other city exists outside of that space.

• Ritch Noble didn’t do bad either, and rumor is he had a fundraiser event last Thursday. Now if we can just see him show his face in public.

• There is still a lot of buzz about the possible conflicts of interest with council candidate and county employee Erin Srstka. As a county official said to me on Friday, the county commission should have known better to approve of her candidacy, or are they using her . . . more to come on that.

• Marshall Selberg shows his true colors, and while his friends and associates maintain he is ‘his own man’ while being an independent broker for Lloyd companies, he has no problem taking independent donations from them. Marshall, how does that butter taste?

Stehly gathers over 700 petition signatures with the help of over 20 volunteers

She may not be on the city council YET, but she surely earned the title of petition queen.

Sioux Falls city council At-Large candidate Theresa Stehly has been coined the ‘petition queen’ and she showed her sash when she collected this many signatures (she took in over 200 on her own) for her At-Large candidacy. In fact she told me that there were still more coming in after the deadline and some had to be thrown out due to notary issues.

Congrats Theresa!

The Big Purple Building recently posted the job description for the CEO/President position (DOC: CEO-PAVILION-JD)

I still find it odd they are doing such a lackluster search for such an important position. As someone asked me, “Do you think it is rigged?” In other words, has a person already been pre-chosen and they are just going through the motions?

I guess that answer lies with whoever they choose.

Event Center crying tears of hypocrisy

Poor thing, still upset they blew the siding settlement money on popcorn poppers.

I guess, I am not an expert on these kind of things, like sledge joints, or is it swedge joints, I forget;

A key architectural element of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center is precast, colored concrete. The white residue on the colored concrete is a common condition called efflorescence. Efflorescence occurs when salt migrates from within the concrete to the surface and forms a coating.

“The City is fully aware of the white residue on the building. It’s not uncommon to see this issue in the early years of recently constructed buildings. We are finalizing plans for it to be cleaned off the exterior,” says Mark Cotter, Director of Public Works.

Not sure if Gage Brothers is paying for the cleanup or not, I’m guessing they probably are due to the embarrassment of such work (if it really is their fault or not). But this 180 by the city is baffling hypocrisy. We find it necessary to clean up a little salt because it may ‘look bad’ but after receiving a $1 million dollar settlement for the dented up siding, we leave it, because it is a ‘design element’.
