In the age of Trump, this reality is both refreshing and hopeful. Thank you Porter for making this happen through your talents and leadership.

On the other hand, why during such a important moment like this, does our mayor wear a jacket over a red sports vest and use words like “puppy” at such an occasion? It reminds me of something earlier this year, when a shaven mayor with a tie thanked Denny for saving the State Theatre, then the next day that same mayor showed up to honor the first African American Sioux Falls firefighter by being unshaven and without a tie. I also, once heard him use the word “crap” during a speech, too, as mayor.

Perhaps, Ellis’s recent podcast valuation of the lack of current maturity at city hall is spot on. I hate to make a blog piece like this so political, but memories are memories, and when we honor great Americans like MLK, then we are invoking our memories out of respect, and those present for such an occasion should show the ultimate respect as well.
