Looks like the DSU deal is being released to the public. Not sure why Mayor Secret Poops had to have a secret meeting with the council about this at city hall. That’s what baffles me about his secrecy sometimes . . . what’s the point? So you want to give $10 million to a public university? And that needs to be kept secret why? Oh that’s right, not to piss off the great one;

Of the $90 million going toward this initiative, $50 million over five years will come from T. Denny Sanford to expand in Sioux Falls; $10 million will come from the city, pending council approval; $250,000 from Forward Sioux Falls for a cyber/IT park in Sioux Falls; $30 million from the state as proposed in Gov. Kristi Noem’s State of the State address, pending legislative approval.

While I certainly don’t discourage DSU building a facility in Sioux Falls AND certain tax dollars going towards higher education, I’m not sure the money should be coming out of the city’s kitty. We can do a lot of infrastructure repairs with $10 million. Which brings us to the other big question, where is this money coming from*? If the city has $10 million laying around to throw at this, it tells me one thing, we are overtaxed. It seems lately the city is just flush in money for all kinds of these kind of projects. Can you imagine how many affordable homes and apartments we could refurbish with $10 Million? Probably well over a 1,000 units combined.

Looks like another handshake deal with the Denny Warbucks and Matty P. where the private sector is dictating where taxpayers should spend their money while our local leaders have secret meetings about it in the basement of city hall. Hopefully the black hoods and candles were donated 🙂

*Speaking of money, I guess councilor Starr was mislead last week about where the $150K is coming from for the Bunker Ramp legal fund. The story going around is that our legal department has a slush fund for litigation like this. I wonder if our city attorney will apologize and correct his statements at the next public meeting?

  1. It must be hard for a mayor to go back into private life when he’s accustomed to spending millions in public money. My guess is the mayor has ties to DSU but wanted to persuade the council privately.

When it comes to privileged spending it’s always for their benefit. The general population gets left out. There are slums in this wealthy city and there will be more until there’s a change away from Strong Mayor Charter.

  2. That the City tosses in $10 million for this project, one far removed from the proper and legitimate role of municipal government – of course we are over-taxed.
Municipal governments such as Sioux Falls are constantly pissing money down their legs.
Meanwhile county governments in South Dakota dig and scratch to fund their legitimate and constitutionally defined missions of government (care of the indigent; roads, bridges; law enforcement).
There is movement in the legislature to allow South Dakota counties to levy and collect a sales tax (in addition to those sales taxes already collected).
Rather, the legislature needs to re-distribute to counties a portion of the “two pennies” of sales taxes presently flowing to municipal governments.
The municipal government of Sioux Falls has proven to be an ineffective steward of that revenue.

  3. Guy, invoking my right to throw my woke card away, I will say our legislature is suffering from mental retardation.

  4. And this little nugget,
“A nonprofit will be established to hire staff for the lab who will manage applied research and lease spaces for DSU in both Madison and Sioux Falls.”
Ah yes. The ‘private’ portion of this public/private partnership will be a vessel of socialism to recieve and launder government funds to the benefit of our local ecosystem of free market entrepre-socialists.

  5. Black Hoods and Candles was my favorite punk rock band back in the day. They bit chicken heads off while on stage. Chicken sandwiches weren’t enough. Those were the days. Now, the chickens are in charge and hiding behind hoods. Pass the buffalo sauce, where are the waffle fries? Who blew-out the candles?

  6. “Say, what is this Squid Game shxt?”…. “And what’s up with RFK Jr., too?”…. “Next, he’s probably going to show-up at Dealey Plaza and announce he’s running with 45″….

  7. I was at Dealey Plaza some 10 years ago. There was a man I spoke with. He had a card table hawking his 72 page book. His name was Billy Sol. Turns out he was Billy Sol Estes, former LBJ frontman. A riches to rags story. Is this what happens to ‘has been Dems’?

I was on a late commuter flight leaving from West Haven CT. A group of 20 something’s slowly sauntered across the tarmac boarding the plane. It was Clinton staff associated with his Supreme Court nominee. Their arrogant conversations gave them away. I lost all respect for Clinton years. Their accompanying 40 something’s talking into their watches were interesting.

Dems, curb your ego. Repos, save some for the general public. I’m proud to be Indy.

  8. If he worked for LBJ, then he probably knew a lot about the assassination. Just sayin. Remember who gained the most on 11/22. Have you ever been to Clinton’s birthplace home in Hope, Arkansas? It has an eerie resemblance to Dealey Plaza. Grassy knoll and overpass and all. I’m not sure what to make of that. Maybe I am making too much of it. And what did Jack Ruby know and when did he know it? Oh, that’s right, that’s Watergate. E. Howard Hunt was involved in both. Where is this all going? I am not sure. Overpasses, however make for a great cover-up:

  9. On the heals of the Matty P sweetheart deal. The Guernsey Guy gets it to a T ! Who knew and when did they know it ? This is some nasty sausage making.

  10. I hear that Chick-fil-A is coming out with a new chicken sausage sandwich…. Say that real fast five times…. Why don’t you?….
