All the signs are certainly there; Secret strategy meetings, and a full on ass kiss assault on social media buttering up folks for his mayoral run.
So is he running? That is still up in the air, but someone has presented me a likely timeline scenario. Those close to his shadow campaign have confirmed to me the plan is to announce very late (Feb/March) and self fund. It is actually a good strategy . . . if you are running for a district seat on the council, but not so much if you are mayoral candidate.
I’m sure he is going to rely on name recognition, but has virtually been a ghost since he left office. I have NOT seen him in public since, not even once. Granted I don’t run in those circles, but I find it odd that he has been such a phantom. Take your time Mike, hopefully you will realize by next year you need to pack up your crap and leave town and stay as far away from city hall as possible. We re-elected Trump after a 4-Year stint . . . how is that working out? You get my drift.
OMG, not another Trump. Elected between terms like Trump would be a disaster. I miss the tears and the walks downtown not stepping on sidewalk cracks. I doubt oligarchs Sanford or Lloyd heirs would reinstall him and even support his opponent. There’s no bond rating for another voter opposed coliseum or VA property bath house. He already bought toxic waste undevelopable yards from a railroad who didn’t own the property. The only damage left to do is maybe a graveyard on city property for Veterans. Oh, he did that. Well then, ghosts from many wars will keep him company at his private home on a dry lake.
Fake News Huether.

If Huether enters, then both Huether and Smith are in each other’s way. This all works to Heels 54’s advantage. Then add Curt, and it further muddles the waters for the left-of-center vote, which further advantages Heels.
( and Woodstock adds: “Say, if Mike gets back in there, do you think he’ll try to make a rectangular office oval again, or will he be more inclined to just gold plate it like Trump?” 🙂 )
VSG,
While his origin might portend “left of center” politics, I’m not certain there is anything about Soehl’s tenure on City Council which aligns with that position on the political spectrum.
Were he to declare as a candidate for Mayor, he would be a candidate without a base. Those on the left will align with Smith (and IF the local Dems are for the common man and woman*, why would they line up behind a guy who spent his entire tenure on City Council favoring the oligarchs in town, while sticking it to ordinary folks?).
While his most recent record aligns with the politically progressive chamber cronies (“the government must be involved in private investments in order that there be ‘growth’) who predominate Sioux Falls politics, simply put, Soehl is not flashy enough for that crowd.
I can see Mayor MisTaken’s smirk when thinking of a Soehl for Mayor campaign. “Curt we let you vote with us and for our agenda. Thanks for that, BTW. But you are not in the club, buddy.”
* I suspect that both you and Sheldon would agree that the local Dems are wine and cheese party Dems and NOT for the plight of the common man and woman.
TGfG,
OH, Soehl won’t do as well as Smith or Heuther with Dems or left of center people, but he adds to the choices that Dems and left of center people have. Curt comes from a very good and credible Democratic family, which won’t hurt him with some Dems, regardless.
Oh, TGIG,
Personally, I’m a Diet Pepsi watered down with water and a Little Debbie cosmic brownie kind of Democrat. 🙂
