Dr. Homan being extremely misleading about sub-teacher pay increases

Worst of all is the media lets her get by with saying this;

“I will tell you proudly, just a few years ago, when every teacher took a significant pay-cut, the subs did not. Their salary was protected,” Homan said.

While her statement is true, ABOUT LAST YEAR what Pam doesn’t tell you is this;

SD Teacher average Salary Raise Last 10 Years: 31.7%

And according to the SF School District, these were the pay increases/decreases since 2006;

2006-7 +3.64%

2007-8 +5%

2008-9 +6.4%

2009-10 +4.6%

2010-11 +1.25%

2011-12 -2.05%

2012-13 +2.3%

Yes, while teachers in SD enjoyed a 31.7% pay increase over the past 10 years, subs have gotten NOTHING for the past 6 years. And the only decrease in pay was last year. Remember also that subs receive NO benefits from the school district, only pay. Looks like Homan’s only defense is to tell the media 1/6th the truth about pay increases, and the media does ZERO research on her statement. My research took about 10 minutes.

Homan’s contract

Not sure if this is the document that everyone has been gushing over, but, this is what I found; 2010-2015 Superintendent Employment Agreement

These two paragraphs really peaked my interest;

$5,200 for entertainment?! I could go to Scarlett’s every day of the week for a year and have trouble spending that (couch dances and all)!

It amazes me we piss and moan about Johnny getting a free lunch, while our tax dollars go towards entertaining our Super of Schools.

UPDATE: I also found this part of the contract ‘interesting’ I guess after the school board hires her they can no longer tell her what to do. Am I missing something here? I thought it was the school board’s job to be HER boss, not the other way around.

Super Homan’s contract to become public Monday

It is like the Heaven’s opened wide. On Monday, Homan’s contract will be available to view online (I will dig up the link on Monday), because the state legislature changed state law to make this happen. As you know, Pam wasn’t going to let anyone see it. That’s all changed now.

Simons said that even if Homan wanted to release her own contract, the law would not allow it, because “in South Dakota, personnel files belong to the employer.”

Also, as DaCola reported a couple of years ago, there are no incentives for substitute teachers in Sioux Falls. Not only have they not increased their pay in several years ($90 per day – no benefits) they are now telling subs they must sub AT LEAST 8 times a year or they will be removed from the roster. Of course retired teachers are exempt from this rule.
