Libertyland TIF should go to a vote of the entire state!

While the petitioners did the right thing by putting this to a vote of the people of the affected area, the TIF should really be voted on by the entire state. Why?

So this is how TIFs work in SD; The developer’s property is valued at a new higher rate once the project is completed, this rate is used to fund city, school and county government, except that new valued tax revenue goes back to the developer for improvements (in other words he gets a tax refund to build his personal project). So while these values are up, the money isn’t coming in so the county and school district must make that revenue up by taking it from the state which is funded by sales taxes paid for by the entire public body of the state. So while there may be a TIF in Pennington County, Minnehaha County residents are funding this TIF thru sales taxes to make up for the lack of school and county funding. TIFs are not only BAD for the effected communities but they hurt every resident in this state! Some would argue we pay these taxes anyway, and you are correct, but instead of bailing out school districts and counties we could use the revenue to improve state infrastructure. What a f’ing concept!!!!!!

The Scab upgrades to Shopping News status from Tidbits status

I used to work for the company that owned the Shopping News. It was the longest employment I ever had. I think I worked for K. Lesnar for 11 years (2 separate stints) as an estimator and customer service manager for the commercial printing side. Inserts were where we made our money. So recently I have been seeing fliers around the Scab at various locations, and I finally figured out they have inserts now. Can you please bring back K’s column? And no worries, you don’t even need to contact him, one of the office ladies would download his column from the internet each week.

The Mural Censor is back with his checkbook

I’m sure when Zak sees my post, it will NOT be a surprise. When I met with Zak a while back, I warned him of the influence of Paulson, but encouraged him to take his check to the bank if he offered, but I told him to NOT ask for it, because Paulson expects something in return for that donation. Zak was actually encouraged to run by Poops, but we all know Poops and Matty, the censorship queens, work hand in hand, and if you appease one of them, you will ultimately have to appease the other. But I don’t need to go on an on about the behaviors of a wannabe kingmaker, we just need to look at what his money and influence in local politics has given us;

• A censored mural that the Smithsonian accepted later (That’s the big Fed museum in DC, not the craft barn in Harrisburg).

• A mayor that has been ineffective in finishing anything he started (I still don’t think he knows how to wear a Covid mask)

• A councilor who not only didn’t finish their term, they left the state! (as I predicted!)

• A councilor who isn’t running for a 2nd term because he has statewide aspirations (and can’t get anything done on the council)

• Whoever that guy who beat Jordan is

There are many more to list, but it would seem Paulson should have a little buyer’s remorse considering all the candidates he has supported who won so far have been leadership failures. But he doesn’t want a leader, he wants a rubber stamper. If Paulson wants to support you as a candidate, give him a PO box to send the check to, and the phone number to the Holiday Inn Express and hope he leaves you alone 🙂 and if he persists ask him his feelings on censorship 🙂

Shop local, even if we don’t

A foot soldier sent me this STORY and said, “It is a shame they don’t practice what they preach.”;

“If I had a message for people in Sioux Falls as we go into the holiday season — take the opportunity to be intentional,” Pritchett said. “Support your local retailers, local restaurants and try to do as much as your shopping here as you can. Because these are the people that employ individuals in our community, they pay the property taxes for the buildings that they may be operating in and they really do help support the local economy in more ways than just buying online.”

While Fireball is telling us all to spend locally, the city, the finance department, him and Poops have been running this city into the ground for 7 years (this is what happens when you hire church buddies). Poops has directed millions in no-bid contracts to out-of-state vendors. Some of this stuff can’t be done locally, and shouldn’t, like internal audit (which ironically should be ALL internal, that is literally the name of the department!). But most of these contracts could have been awarded locally and thru an RFP process. Not only saving taxpayers millions but the money awarded to these companies would re-circulate in the community thru wages and consumer sales, as Fireball so cleverly has stated above.

I try to buy locally as much as possible, but it’s easier to find the Holy Grail in Sioux Falls then a bike part. I have been telling people though if you do want to eat out, always go to an immigrant restaurant. Always delicious, unique, fresh, and the best service. So yeah, shop local, wonder if Fireball will figure out how to take his own advice? Because internet sales is all that has been floating us for 7 months, something he conveniently left out of the story.
