This is well worth watching. I am not all the way through all the videos yet, but I will say this about what I have seen so far; while most think that religion delivers us from evil and saves our souls, one has to question the evil leading some of these religions? IMO, religion is a double edged sword, on one side it can bring peace, love, humanity and charity, on the other hand it can bring abuse, war, and death. And no religion is without guilt. All of them have killed in the name of their God.

I’m at peace with being a deist. Remember, Man created religion, not God. Something to think about in the New Year.

10 Thoughts on “Documentary about the Catholic Church clergy abuse coverups

  1. You should look into other religious leaders cover ups too, YIKES! Seems to be a priest/rabbi/muslimwhatever you must have a certain portion of your folks as pedophiles.

  2. It’s not about being a pedophile, it’s about the coverup.

  3. Oh certainly, and as I said there are coverups amongst all the various religions. CHeck out htis link for some reading http://www.catholicleague.org/research/abuse_in_social_context.htm. Kinda makes ya wonder why Catholic priests are the only ones made out to be kid touchers, when all religions cover it up.

So Jim, you list your religion as “apologist” on questionairres/forms?

The Catholic Church is targeted because it is the largest centralized church on the planet, thereby having the deepest pockets.

  6. lol, I am not an apologist, most religions rely on the idea that you are weak and have little to no control….not for me!

  7. Oliver – It’s targeted because some of their priests are abusing children. The Catholic church has spent billions fighting the accusations, and only a fraction of that money paying off victims.

There is no argument that priests have abused children. However, it is not solely a Catholic problem. Due to the size and centralized structure of the Catholic Church, the claims garner the greatest publicity and typically the high-profile, high-dollar court cases. Attorneys are much more willing to go after the 1 billion+ member, 2,000 year old Church than the “Church of What’s Happening Now” that meets in the basement of the bowling alley. Like most everything else, it all comes down to math.

  9. We may very well be about to discover if two thousand years of theological exegesis is anything more than the greatest intellectual fraud in history. A counterfeit of revealed truth! And the continuing sexual abuse scandal of the Roman church are just setting the stage.

For what science, religion, philosophy, theology, psychology, Hawkins or Dawkins thought impossible has happened. History now has it’s first fully demonstrable, Christian proof for faith. And coming from outside all existing theologies, clearly has ‘tradition’ in the cross hairs. Quoting from an online review:

“The first ever viable religious conception capable of leading reason, by faith, to observable consequences which can be tested and judged is now a reality. A teaching that delivers the first ever religious claim of insight into the human condition that meets the Enlightenment criteria of verifiable, direct cause and effect, evidence based truth embodied in experience. For the first time in history, however unexpected or unwelcome, the world must contend with a claim to new revealed truth, a moral wisdom not of human intellectual origin, offering access by faith, to absolute proof, an objective basis for moral principle and a fully rational and justifiable belief! ”

If confirmed and there appears a growing concerted effort to test and authenticate this material, of which I am taking part, this will represent a paradigm change in the nature of faith and in the moral and intellectual potential of human nature itself;  untangling the greatest  questions of human existence: sustainability, consciousness, meaning, suffering, free will and evil. And at the same time addressing the most profound problems of our age.

While the religious will find this news most difficult, those who have claimed to be of an Enlightenment mind should find it of particular interest, for it represents the means to finally reconcile science and spiritually. But if they are unable to appreciate this change in the historical faith paradigm, to one that conforms precisely to a criteria subject to test and confirmation, then their own ‘claim’ to rationality is no more than pretension nor better then those theological illusions they find so abhorrent.

A unexpected revolution appears to be under way. More info at http://www.energon.org.uk
