More like a Magic 8-Ball.

During the last Listening & Learning session (Wednesday, June 25) The mayor was asked by someone who works for the Sports Authority what is up with the siding on the Events Center and if it will rust or seep water. The man said he was asking the question because he has gotten a lot of emails about it. Towards the end of the segment, Huether seemed surprised that the Sports Authority was getting questions about it. He seemed a little annoyed this was getting out to the public and people were asking about it.

Huether first started by saying that they hired a consultant to look at the issue and will await their report. Fair enough, but as usual, he couldn’t resist to put his two-cents worth in. Even though the report wasn’t even in the hands of the city yet he said the siding was just aesthetics and that it wouldn’t leak or rust or hurt the structure. Wait, didn’t you just say you are still awaiting the report? How do you know what the consultant is going to say?

I guess the city does have the report now (according to the mayor in the video he said he would have it in a couple of weeks), so why not release the report until July 22?

What could be going on here?

– Could the consultant be a hired gun by Mortenson to create the results they want? And why is this consultant’s name confidential? There has been NO mention in the media who the city hired to do the report. Why is it such a big secret?

– Could the city be taking the report and ‘editing’ anything in that may not be to their liking? Could they be sending it back to the consultant for those ‘edits’ much like we suspected with the aquatics study?

– So how does a guy (the mayor) who has never worked in construction (or banking for that matter) know what the consultant is going to say weeks before the report is released?

Why would a consultant be hired during construction period when the architect or engineer should show the issues or disclose to the inspectors or construction oversight firm Maybe we have a constructive change going that is someone in the city govt like mmm opened the door to mods without proper design and funds

  4. WTF!!!! We needed to hire a consultant to tell us why the building looks like shit. No One threw the bullshit flag at that answer? Is the study by an independent firm? Is Mortensen paying for the study? Is Mortensen refusing to fix the problem? What is their excuse? I guess only Lemmings attend these bullshit sessions.

Seems like a fairly simple fix to me.

City to Motensen: We didn’t buy a building that looks like a fat ladies ass. Fix it or expect consequence.

Best description I have heard yet to the look of the building.

Uh, there’s no consequence. City ordinances do not allow due process into court. Both parties know there’s no way to enforce a warranty. Not only does Huether and Mortensen know there’s inferior construction, they knew it during construction.

You got a 100 million EC portrayed as a 300 million one. There was another 20 million added skim. You still need an 8 million parking garage & another 10 million infrastructure assist.

You get what you pay for.

This city has become a Hollywood movie set. Lots of building frontage barely supported from behind with no interior.

  8. Give it a break Dan. This has nothing to due with city ordinance. It’s about a construction contract.

If this is just a construction contract, then where is our cracker jack engineering city employees numbering in the 40 to 60 each been. Why can’t they review, consult, recommend a fix to this damn mess. Why does MMM need to hire consultants. Is it because the city employees are so fed up with being mob bossed by MMM and even Fiddle Faddle (he even screwed up ballot language with our City Clerk who is incompentent. What the hell, is this welfare for the middle class or just dumb and dumber. I think our Engineers if there really is any are fed up and need to be able to express the truth without the fear of being fired or retaliated against by MMM and the big developers of the future detroit and chicago. Its coming

LJL, I’m not sure you realize how corrupt city government has become and how citizens have no voice. It doesn’t work how you think. You get what you got because they had to make it look like there was something delivered despite their public funds pilfer.

What comes out of this mayors mouth never ceases to amaze me. But then, what did we really expect from a fee-harvesting guru? His comeback about a group that wants to put signage warning the good folks about the polluted big poo?

“We don’t need a bunch of expensive and obtrusive signage to remind us what only makes common sense.”

I seriously doubt that most people using the Sioux River for canoeing, kayaking, etc., know it is the 13th most IMPAIRED river in the United States! (source: DNR – Department of Natural Resources)

its nasty, especially the section from cliff ave to county road 121. Its smells worse than any packing plant or rendering plant ever could. toxic as hell. Its just a conduit to the treatment plant. That smells like hell too, more poo in the polluted big poo. Too bad they don’t invest more in infrastructure for this and water versus the parks and recreation that has unlimited funds to entertain us
