Where am I?

Daily thought found on FB via Mexico City: Someone somewhere is living your best dream, and another your worst nightmare. In that light, the way you navigate your dreams in your life effects the quality of others dreams.

Double Standard w/Ambulance service?

As we all may or may not know, ambulance service for the city of Sioux Falls is provided by Paramedics Plus (including non-emergency transfers) and county service is provided by Med-Star. Which is fine, because having two companies providing service in the area is good for a back up plan in case of a major natural disaster, or other instances.

I was told on Friday (still checking to verify information)  that if Med-Star (the county provider) can’t provide immediate service in their service area, Paramedics Plus can assist.

But what is confusing is why can’t Med-Star be allowed to assist Paramedics Plus in the city limits if they need assistance? Or can they?

Cell Phone Ban?

Obviously, this isn’t a scientific poll, but interesting.

What I find strange about the ban is the almost non-existant media coverage until this point.

Last Friday I mentioned an email I received about the supporters and the proposed ordinance, on the following Monday, I asked Argus city reporter Joe Sneve to comment about it on ‘100 Eyes’, he did so graciously, but Patrick Lalley seemed to want to quiet him up about it, Joe continued to talk.

Finally a story comes out this week  in the Argus and a couple of the TV stations took time out from chasing rain drops and cooking pies and also did a story.

Why the big secret?

Are there certain people in this town that can just go to the city council, and wave a magic wand to get them to support their interests while keeping it from the public? It seems to happen too often.

I don’t care what side you are on this issue, but it should be voted on by the people.

Bosworth Guilty?

boz-biz

Heck, I don’t know, is stupidity a crime? If so, there would be a lot of people in jail. I was (un)fortunate enough to watch most of the trial this week.

What I could gather was she pretty much admitted that she signed petitions she was not the circulator of (which in turn would make her guilty of the crime) but she blames her then attorney Joel Arends.

Not sure what the jury will decide.

I will say this though, it has been entertaining. The witnesses were a large group of Republicans blaming each other for their problems (which is fun to watch, because they all show what a large group of gutless souls they are).

Things I have learned;

The key witness, a child stalking, atheist, communist, liberal blogger (not my words) was never called to the stand even though his name was mentioned more then anyone else, and the trial has proceeded because of his challenge. Kind of a badge of honor for Cory.

Hutterites don’t know much about politics, but they know how to pray, cook food, float about and forge signatures.

I guess a two-time felon and key player in the Jack Abramhoff scandal seemed like a good witness to the prosecution (LMFAO)!

Attorneys may be good at covering your ass, but they are even better at covering their own.

Starbucks Baristas in Sioux Falls seem to know more about the politics of Ann ‘B’ then the rest of us.

But one of the last witnesses in the trial really took the cake. The defense called criminal attorney and all around fashionable pastel tie man, Jeff Beck. Jeff admitted on cross examination that he was ‘fired’ from the SFPD after getting a demotion for ‘moral turpitude’ which really means he shouldn’t be practicing law;

The classification of a crime or other conduct as constituting moral turpitude has significance in several areas of law. First, prior conviction of a crime of moral turpitude (or in some jurisdictions, “moral turpitude conduct”, even without a conviction) is considered to have a bearing on the honesty of a witness and might be used for purposes of the impeachment of witnesses.[4] Second, offenses involving moral turpitude may be grounds to deny or revoke state professional licenses such as teaching credentials,[5] licenses to practice law,[6] or other licensed profession. Third, this concept is of great importance for immigration purposes in the United States, Canada, and some other countries, since offenses which are defined as involving moral turpitude are considered bars to immigration into the U.S.[7]

This trial has been anything but boring. The hammer comes down on Wednesday, and then Stormland TV can go back to scaring old people about a chance of rain and praising our mayor.

Bravo to the City Council and Cathy Brechtelbauer!

The Sioux Falls City Council will be holding a special meeting at 5 PM on Tuesday to approve FREE youth ridership on the city busses for the summer. I don’t suspect any city councilor to vote against this.

Great Job! This is what happens when the city council shows great legislative leadership in getting things done for our town. It also shows they recognize a need in our community and support sustainability in transportation. I will say today that I am truly proud of my city and leadership in these efforts and thank city personnel for their timely and diligent cooperation.

And a big hand to citizen and youth advocate Cathy for getting the ball rolling on this!
