During the discussion about allowing Class II bikes on the city’s rec trail there was mention of upgrading the ADA rules and regs. What I did not know is to what extent. Recently a person told me he had a friend in a wheelchair that was wondering if he could get a ride on the rec trail with an ELECTRIC golf cart, well guess what, HE CAN! (full doc)
Basically if you follow the speed limit, the device isn’t wider than 32″ and you are diabled you can ride any number of devices.
It is too bad this didn’t come up during the discussion of the Class II ordinance, I think a lot of disabled people in our community would love to have this information! Thanks Mr. Transparent Lame Poop mayor.
Could it be that an electric chair might be too wide, thus potentially slowing up e-bikes? Oh, and by the way, only for the third time in the last three years, I actually passed an e-bike. #WhereAreTheSpeedLimitSignsThatParksPromised?
Or better yet, this lack of transparency speaks to how this whole ordinance change concerning e-bikes on the bike trail had nothing to do with our citizenry, but rather with just facilitating the needs of a corporate entity like Jaunt and how a Jaunt reality fits into the big city imagery of our city fathers at the expense of the citizenry’s safety.
And one more thing, it finally dawned on me that the reason the city made e-bikes legal also on sidewalks was not for the sake of e-bikers, but rather to help facilitate the renting of Jaunt e-bikes, which are located on our sidewalks. Because if e-bikes couldn’t be on our sidewalks, then how was Jaunt effectively going to be able to do business? Plus, the thought of e-bikes being used on our sidewalks is a serious safety issue, which is further substantiated by the fact that Jaunt knows this and does not want its e-bikes to be used on our sidewalks….. Go figure….
( and Woodstock adds: “I just want to know why I can’t use my Moped on the bike trail…. I mean, what’s the fxcking difference between a Moped and an electric bike, huh?” ….. “There are both motorcycles, if you ask me”…. )
