UPDATE: What’s with all the crying these days? I see he goes to same stylist as Sue Peterson. The intro was priceless, ‘Known to many as Mayor Mike’. Hey, Buddy, you lost that title 7 years ago, and you ain’t getting it back.

Public Works director, Cotter, did learn something from Huether, turn on the water works, uh I mean sewer works. No doubt it was an exhaustive project for Cotter, over 270 days of construction. But I am not sure it is worth crying about. Mr. Cotter gets paid $232K a year + benefits. We pay these wages because it is important job and it is hard. I compliment Cotter on getting this done, but it is his job. I also fault Cotter for not taking a firmer stand with Mike on the Sewer expansion. This project was supposed to be done BEFORE the Event Center and if we would have gone that route you would have saved taxpayers over $50 million in capital expenses and millions in interest payments, but Mike wanted that tin can so bad he had Cotter bury the project and any discussions about it. Cotter should have got in front of the council and pushed them to implement the project before the Event Center. So I guess it was appropriate to cry. While the project was a success, it would have been a heckuva a lot cheaper if we would have started it 10 years ago.

Rhoden spoke briefly at the end of the presser, and he was the only one that said anything that made sense. He basically said, these are the kind of (infrastructure) projects the government is setup to take care of. I agree, I have often said SF out of control spending could be tapered back by simply dedicating tax dollars to NEEDS not WANTS.

And now that the sewer plant is finished, get ready for the $30 million dollar bond next year to make repairs to the Denty. It’s coming.

WHEN YOU BUY A NEW CAR YOU HAVE TO BUILD A GARAGE FOR IT

I guess the Public Works department is angling for a new garage to house the new snow plows. The rumor is a building 100 x 300 FT. building. This should come as no surprise. They bought all these maintainers now they have to store them somewhere. Funny how the finance director didn’t mention this when he wanted the council to buy the maintainers. Even a pole barn that size will be millions. It reminds me of the applicant who showed up to the Zoning Board for an adjustment on his garage. He wanted to extend his garage 3 feet in the front. When asked his reason he said, “I bought a new truck and it doesn’t fit in the garage.” 🙂

  1. Scott,

But remember, who really has the power behind a city government that is split apart from the Mayor and City Council under a ‘chartered government’ – the powers behind any city are the beaucuracy of men and women made up of appointed Directors and all the commissions, committees, while you have your Officers, Agents, Employee, not to mention the landowners who own tracts of land in the amount of 320-640 acres, let alone your largest property holders. Who do you think these ‘appointed directors’ are going to listen to? You make several great points, but there seems to be a huge idealogical difference between the residents or “Tenants on the Land” vs the actual “owners of the land” want or expect from their city government. The root of this growing issue can be traced to the origins of how a “political State” was first born dating back to the 1788 Ordinance itself. One who owns the land, controls your government, and the ones who control the government controls the activities upon the land. Mark Cotter could anytime voice his opinions on how he wants to best operate the public works department, but end of day, he is appointed by the Mayor, who is elected At-Large, while financed by those big landowners/property holders, whom many get appointed to our steering committees and commissions. The Charter was not just something crafted over night, it was a Group of Concerned Citizens of the City that wanted more control of your city government. They did not like how under the commission format, the “State” meaning ALL THE PEOPLE had their tenticals dug deep in city governments. But then again, remember, the City of Sioux Falls was founded based on a Business Charter purchased by the People of St. Paul (1852), and Operational Charter by the People of Dubuque. Understanding the mindset of these two groups, will show you how this city is operated today…

  2. The East Wing has left DC, while the Left Wing is beginning to show up in NYC. AND, Marjorie Taylor Greene won’t shut up. Plus, Food Stamp mouths are open while the government is shut down. 3i/Atlas has reappeared past the Sun, but now its color is blue (?). Now, we are blowing up boats in the Pacific, which is what happens when you change the name from Defense to War, I guess. Trump seemed confused in Japan, but he was due, because it had been about 30 days since his last episode of ill health and disappearance. Oh, and don’t forget about Trump’s MRI, either, because finally, he allowed someone to take a look inside to see what really makes him tick. This season, Melanie has less House to decorate for Christmas, which means less time in The Donald’s presence…. Perhaps, she is to blame…. 🙂 Trump wants the Nobel Prize for Peace, while he contemplates attacking Venezuela and Nigeria. AND, then there’s the Gaza peace, which probably won’t make it to Hanukkah. The job market is getting weak. Canada and the US have become estranged from each other, and the World Series outcome will only make it worse. Elon claims he has a flying car to unveil, which is all we need, given the current air traffic controllers’ mess that he caused. Some say the market is beginning to act like 1929, but can that be any worse than how our president acts? In fact, both Hoover and Trump suck, but at least one is a vacuum, while the other is a grifter, but in both cases, they are takers, with the former known to clean up, while the latter takes you to the cleaners. AND, speaking of cleaners, does anyone in SF know a good cleaner? Because I have a stain I would like to nuke, or should I just wait for Trump’s new testing, or a Christmas present from Kim Jong Un? …… Oh, hell, I think I will just blame it all on 3i/Atlas …. 😉

  3. Mike, your ability to spew absolute gibberish is actually rather impressive. Sorry for the lack of quotes or random capitalized words.

  4. Mike, you have been served by the ‘Grammar Police’. No worries, it’s like when the recovering(?) meth head security officer in front of Shriver’s tries to move transients off the public sidewalk with a heater hanging from his toothless face. Just laugh and move along. He usually trolls here every couple of months after rereading Moby Dick for the 477th time. I still think his profile vagina is impenetrable 🙂

  5. Grammar cops suffer from an inferiority complex that stems from their childhood when they were ignored by their grandmothers and always handed the last, and crumbling, cookie from such grandparents. It was either Jung or Freud who dubbed it The Last Child Complex, which explains their obsession with correction, always being right, and an attempt to control others by suggesting an inferiority in others, in order to intimidate others to like them or at least to be noticed and respected at a higher level than they are used to being. Often, people who suffer from this complex tend to be overachievers and often seek employment in managerial positions where they eventually succumb to the realities of the Peter Principle, which then only further ignites their inferiority complex due to their obvious shortcomings and eventual failures, which only then lends itself to further personal abandonment and avoidance by others. #LifesABitchSometimes
