You mean robots giving citations to cars (not people) is unconstitutional?

3d_tin_robot

“Hey, Mr. Reliant K-Car, not so fast.”

Well, it was only a matter of time until this scam hit the fan. The facts remain, according to state law it is legal to make a right turn on a red light, as long as you stop and yield. City ordinance does not trump state law. And secondly, citations should be handed to ACTUAL people by an ACTUAL police officer. Do I think people who run redlights are jerkoffs? Sure. But the ACTUAL people who are running the lights are the ones that should get the ticket, and it should be an ACTUAL traffic offense, not some small claims court bullshit;

Democrat Peggy Gibson introduced the South Dakota bill after a constituent received a ticket that didn’t belong to her. That ticket was issued for an illegal right turn in August by the driver of a four-door sedan.

The $86 ticket was delivered to Kimberly Greer of Huron. Greer was surprised to see her name on a picture of the offending vehicle.

“I haven’t owned a car since 2000,” Greer said. “I have a Ford F-150 and a Ford Ranger.”

Sioux Falls officials told Greer she would need to contest the ticket to a Sioux Falls hearing officer. The car was hers, they said.

“I said, ‘If this is my car, I want to report it stolen,’ ” she said.

This is what I have been saying all along. Are we gonna let ‘Robots’ be law enforcement officers or are we gonna let ACTUAL trained officers determine when traffic offenses take place? I have also argued it would be cheaper to have an officer sit in a lawn chair at the intersection 24/7 then to have these silly cameras. Piss and moan all you want about how the cameras have been good thing, but last I checked we don’t live in freaking communist China, and we shouldn’t be treated as such.

Has SF mayoral candidate Pat Costello hired South Dakota’s number one ad agency to assist with his campaign?

Rumor has it, he has. With over $75,000 in the bank this should come as no surprise that Pat has chosen Lawrence & Schiller as his ad agency. I predicted this awhile back (well because, Sioux Falls municipal politics are as predictable as Joel Rosenthal’s gripes about liberal bloggers), considering one of the founders, Paul Schiller donated to his campaign and one of the current owners, Scott Lawrence also donated to his campaign. That’s how it works at L & S. You donate to campaigns and you get contracts in return (remember the no-bid tourism contracts with the state after giving money to Rounds’ campaign?)

I will say this, L & S has ran many successful state and national campaigns, they have a proven track record.

But mayor of Sioux Falls? LOL!

I can’t wait to see the flashy, slick stuff they produce for Pat, which will turn voters off in an instance. There is a reason why Huether and Staggers are the leading candidates right now, they have taken a grassroots approach and actually decided to ‘TALK TO VOTERS‘. Image that, what a concept? Sioux Falls is still small enough that people know each other, personally, and if you go out and get to know your fellow man, people appreciate it.

Spend all you want Pat avoiding the Joe-Six Pack, it won’t get you elected, but at least Paul and Scott will make a couple of bucks from your attempt.

SD’s chief teabagger, Howie, comes to the realization that ‘taxpayers’ are the actual people who pay ‘taxes’

Untitled-17

I still laugh in amazement that this dill weed is running for governor;

By 2012, the state would gain an extra $54 million a year in revenue from the gas tax and excise tax on vehicle sales, while local governments would get an additional $30 million a year from the boost in registration fees.

The main opposition to the measure at Wednesday’s hearing came from Sen. Gordon Howie, R-Rapid City, a committee member who is running for governor.

“This $84 million will come straight out of the pockets of the taxpayers of this state,” Howie said.

Get outta here! You mean taxpayers pay taxes! Where did you hear such nonsense Gordo? At a tea party?

Sen. Mike Vehle, chairman of the committee, said the measure is needed to prevent South Dakota’s roads from deteriorating. He said the taxes and fees are really user fees imposed on those who use the roads.

“If you don’t want to use the roads, you don’t have to pay the fee,” Vehle said.

Exactly. While I think this is a horrible time to raise taxes I do think the gas tax, excise tax and registration fee increases are the best ways to pay for roads. Tax the people who are using the roads. Maybe Howie has a better idea? Maybe we should increase taxes on food, cut education spending in half and use that money on roads?

Best line of the SOTU address

“So let me start the discussion of government spending by setting the record straight. At the beginning of the last decade, America had a budget surplus of over $200 billion. By the time I took office, we had a one year deficit of over $1 trillion and projected deficits of $8 trillion over the next decade. Most of this was the result of not paying for two wars, two tax cuts, and an expensive prescription drug program. On top of that, the effects of the recession put a $3 trillion hole in our budget. That was before I walked in the door.”

What was not in the transcript was after Obama read that paragraph, and hearing groans from the Republicants he says “Hey, just statin’ the facts.”

And don’t know how I caught this last night, but this screenshot of Thune was fantastic,

“Hey, Sebelius, after this whole masquerade is over with, wanna join me for a late night bible study at the ‘C’ Street house, I make a helluva cheeseburger, you can credit it to all of my experience flipping burgers at the Star Cafe in Murdo, SD, you know, the small South Dakota town that I claim I still live in.”
