Curiosity Killed the Cat?

I find this story very intriguing;

A former Sioux Falls firefighter is facing serious felony charges.

47-year-old Patrick Warren, who was a division fire chief, has been indicted on 15 counts of hacking into the department’s computer system.  At this time, authorities aren’t sure what his intent was, but we do know Warren is no longer working for the department.

I have NO CLUE why he would want to look at the files, but I highly doubt it had to do with just curiosity. There is a bigger reason. Why would a Division Chief making $104K a year awaiting a great pension risk his job by doing this if he wasn’t ‘suspicious’ about something. Or could he have been doing someone elses dirty work.

I noticed in an early article he resigned in May or August(?). Funny how this just surfaced a few days ago.

It will be fun to watch this unfold, I especially want to know what the picture of ‘sucking up’ was.

City Government getting in the business of workforce development

The SF city council just approved $500,000 in the 2015 budget to go towards workforce development;

“What we’re looking for is the kinds of ideas that boost workforce, in terms of education, re-education. Things that make people want to work in a particular place,” Erpenbach said.

“It’s going to take all of the best minds to create the best solution that will utilize these funds in the best possible way,” Southeast Tech President, Jeff Holcomb said.

Southeast Tech President Jeff Holcomb believes his institution could use this kind of money to boost education opportunities for students of all kinds.

“It may be already existing worker that wants to be retrained to work in a specific skill that’s needed here. So this might be one of those opportunities where we’re actually up-scaling someone. Or helping them find success in a new career,” Holcomb said.

I like the idea. Training local workers to improve their skills. What worries me, is once again, the council approves an expenditure without a plan, which could quickly turn into abuse of the system. Hopefully the money will go towards helping local workers unlike the state spending a big chunk of change so they could recruit a handful of welders for one company.

We will have to watch this closely and see where this half-million gets spent.

Robo Calls about Events Center open house

The Events Center will have their Open Houses on Friday and Saturday. A friend just told me they got a Robo call a few minutes ago on their cell phone. It was the mayor inviting people to the open house. As if our media hasn’t pounded this into our brains already.

I also watched the Stormland TV live stream of a tour over lunch. It was funny because they were live streaming it on their website, and the special projects manager with the city mentions ‘Big Ass Fans’ (It is a brand of fans). She says it a couple of times, and after the press conference was over, the Stormland camera man still has his camera and microphone live, and he says to the reporter, good thing we were not streaming live when she said big ass over and over. LOL. Now who is the ‘big ass’?
