The City of Sioux Falls Million Dollar Crack Legal team can’t figure out how to make a phone call
How much does the city spend on stupid stuff? The world may never know.
This is the kind of government waste that goes on behind the scenes of the Huether administration;
Meanwhile, offline, City Hall hired an attorney for work related to the Twitter account at a cost of $483.58 to taxpayers, according to an invoice obtained by Argus Leader Media in an open records request for attorney billings after the event center settlement.
An invoice from Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith, P.C. shows the city was billed for 3.1 hours of work related to the Twitter prank at $150 an hour.
It looks like to me the only thing outside counsel did was research Westlaw and put in a phone call to Twitter. Nobody on the city’s legal team could figure this out? It reminds me of when the mayor gifted the council each a copy of his favorite book then billed the city for it. The mayor cries about prudence when it comes to homeless shelters, prisoner rehab centers, and free bus rides for youth than blows money on something his internal team could have handled.
I wonder how much money the city has spent on researching DaCola?
BTW, I have never figured out who the fake mayor was, but he/she certainly didn’t harm the mayor’s reputation. Mike takes care of that all on his own.
Sioux Falls Mayoral candidates names a spelling nightmare
Since I have been accused of bitching about everything and anything, I’m protesting the name spellings of the mayoral candidates. If the media was smart, they would throw their support behind Jamison or Anderson, simply based on the fact that their names are easiest to spell. Heck, even the candidate with the shortest name is difficult to spell, Mike Gunn.
So let’s go through these (and please correct me if I am wrong on spelling or pronunciation)
Mike Gunn (Gun)
Greg Jamison (Jame-iz-son)
Kenny Anderson Jr. (And-ER-s0n)
Jolene Loetscher (Let-shur)
Paul TenHaken (Ten-Hay-Ken) Paul was so concerned about his name he eliminated the space.
Nick Weiland (Why-Land)
David Zokaites (Zoe-Kay-tis)
Jim Entenman (Ent-ta-man)
David and Jolene have been the most clever with their names in marketing materials with David ‘Z’ and ‘Let’s Go Jo’.
While this may seem petty to complain about, it really isn’t. Name recognition is very important in a crowded race like this, and having a clever motto is important.
Sioux Falls Planning Commission approves more criminal activity
‘There are two kinds of Video Lottery casinos in Sioux Falls, Ones that have been robbed and ones that will be robbed.’ – Scott Ehrisman
Let’s face it, all VL casinos in SF have become magnets for thieves. We certainly don’t need anymore. I have believed for a long time that the social cost to taxpayers far outweighs what the state makes from them.
Last night at the planning commission, (Item#8) they had a ‘sensitive use’ permit to approve for an alcohol license for a casino. Let’s face it, this isn’t about the license, this is about plopping another VL casino in the middle of an established middle class neighborhood that is already struggling with crime. The commission could have easily voted down the license (that is why it was sensitive use). Only one did, John Paulson.
The neighborhood testified against the casino, NOT because of the alcohol or gambling but because VL casinos get robbed, consistently and non-stop in this community. That’s a reality.
Commissioner ‘Know it all Nick Sershen’ said the neighbors were calling people who gamble and drink criminals. Uh, no they weren’t, they were saying VL casinos attract criminals. It just goes to show the planning commission members don’t give a rat’s ass about keeping neighborhoods safe. While they will debate the ‘safety’ of an electronic church sign for 45 minutes, they had ZERO discussion on this item before approving it. This was an easy one. They failed huge!
It’s funny, when the Bonus Round Bar by my house was a casino, it got robbed 1-2 times a month. Since they have converted it to an arcade bar, I haven’t heard a peep about a robbery. I’m not saying that there haven’t been any attempts, but I think burglars tend to case a place before robbing it, and once they realize it is NOT a casino, they move on.
Dan Lederman turns up the Fear Factor
I guess the SD GOP is going around telling people NOT to sign petitions.
Here’s the deal folks, while I agree with them that you should probably read a petition before signing it or do a little research, let’s make something clear;
SIGNING A PETITION IS NOT THE SAME AS VOTING FOR AN INITIATIVE.
All you are doing by signing a petition is saying as a registered voter in the State of SD you think something should be on the ballot and people have an opportunity to vote on it.
For example, I opposed the Events Center in Sioux Falls (I actually opposed the funding mechanism because I knew the revenue from the EC would never be able to pay the mortgage and only take away from infrastructure dollars). But even though I opposed the plan, I still felt my fellow residents should have an opportunity to vote on the project. You don’t have to APPROVE of the initiative to sign the petition.
Once again, the SD GOP is using confusing messaging because they are scared to death another IM 22 will return and this time they won’t be able to stop it. The Rat’s will always defend the rat hole.
