What we know about Gear Up

When I hear someone like Russ Janklow say that Noem is running a negative campaign against Jackley, you just kind of scratch your head. While I don’t agree with everything Noem has said in her campaign, pointing out the truth about the DCI coverup is not negative campaigning, it’s the truth. Why doesn’t Jackley bring up the millions in farm subsidies that Noem’s family has received over the years?

Much of the same could be said about his other scandals, like EB-5, the Mette Rape case or Gear Up.

Here’s what we know for sure about Gear Up;

• Barely any Native American students benefitted from Gear Up.

According to Michael Wyland of Nonprofit Quarterly,

“Disturbingly, while the GEAR UP program reported serving several thousand low-income, predominantly Native American students prepare for success in postsecondary education, not a single student receiving special education services was served during the 2005-2011 period. We now know the original grant application stressed equitable participation in program services and even documented the percentage of special education students in each of the two dozen schools to be served.”

• When Jackley was questioned about the missing safe at the Westerhuis’s house that could have important MCEC information in it, he said, “Jackley believes it was most likely destroyed in the fire, but could have been stolen or moved somewhere else by Scott Westerhuis.”

• Gear Up started in 2005, the GEAR UP grant did not have an effective system of collecting data or consistently tracking performance. South Dakotans simply do not know, through data, whether the millions of dollars of grant funds helped Native American students prepare for or succeed in college.

• Whatever happened to the missing millions in consulting fees?

When will Jackley really investigate this mess? If ever? Just another scandal he continues to sweep under the rug. Hopefully he will have more time on his hands after June 5th.

Samantha Bee should be fired as soon as they fire Rush, Hannity and all the other bigot conservative talking heads

Here we go again, a liberal (comedian) calls Ivanka Trump a female body part and the conservative talking heads are freaking out.

First off, I watch Sam’s show. I like it, she has good writers and she has good delivery. I also liked her on the Daily Show and was glad she got her own show. I will admit though, if you are conservative or don’t like potty mouths DON’T WATCH IT. If you think Sam saying the ‘C’ word is over the top you obviously don’t watch her show. I’m sure she drops about 5-6 F-Bombs per episode and a lot of other words you are not going to hear on regular TV.

As for comparing her to Roseanne is far-fetched. First off, as I have pointed out, this is what Sam does, and has from the beginning, she is a liberal slant comedian who hates Trump. She REALLY hates him, and she has writers who run the script through producers. While her use of the English language was VILE, it wasn’t racist, maybe a little sexist, but not racist. I think it is pretty clear when you are a celebrity white person and you call a black person an ‘ape’ that is racist. A female calling another female a body part is NOT racist.

But lastly, what sticks in my craw about all this is that Rush and Hannity and all the other conservative talking heads (who are NOT scripted and NOT comedians) say racist crap non-stop, everyday! Rush has been doing it for over 20 years! I remember, I used to have to listen to him when I worked Saturday’s at KWSN part-time. I would play ‘the best of the week’ reel. He made me ill than, and continues to make me ill. He is a disgusting, bigot, POS, pig and should have been fired years ago.

Some on the right may say the problem with our country (no pun intended) are comedians like Samantha when in fact our country has gone down the racist rabbit hole because we have let people like Rush spew their BS Hate for far too long.

If you want Sam to quit or get fired for her comments, than we need to go down the line and get rid of Rush and the rest of his ilk.

Sioux Falls City Council needs to reform Project TRIM, ASAP!

The Emerald Ash Bore will soon be chomping down on trees all over Sioux Falls, it’s inevitable. Some of those trees are in city parks and in the city owned parking strips (boulevards) throughout the city.

In the above video, City of Sioux Falls Parks Director Kearney explains that the city will ultimately have to eliminate most of those Ash trees. The city seems to be taking a proactive approach to the problem.

This would be a perfect opportunity for the city council to tackle Project TRIM reform. During the last municipal campaign, Janet Brekke recommended that Project TRIM gets tied in with other city cleanup projects like KEEP & NICE (Brekke created these programs when she was city attorney). Not only could the city take over Project TRIM and take care of the trees they own in the Boulevard they could tie it in with the elimination of Ash trees in the boulevard.

I think the Parks and Rec and the Forestry divisions of Sioux Falls should come up with a 5 year plan to not only eliminate these trees before they are attacked by the bore, but also trim the other trees in the boulevard. It will be costly up front, but once the city goes through a second 5 year cycle it will get less expensive.

Downtown Sioux Falls still exists

I thought I would remind everyone with First Friday happening today that Downtown Sioux Falls still exists and all of your favorite bars, restaurants and shops are also still there.

I know that there was a fear for awhile that after Former Mayor Coors Light & Olives left city hall that Downtown Sioux Falls would suffer and close down. Somehow the TenHaken Administration has figured out how to keep the lights on Downtown.

I attempted to contact city hall for comment about what they are ‘doing right’ to keep Downtown going and I got this in response;

“Lloyd Companies are great!”

Maybe the new High School should be at the Mall?

The NEW High School Mascot

As a South DaCola foot soldier pointed out to me last night, maybe we should move the new HS to the Mall? With Younkers, SEARS and Toys’ R Us closing, we would have plenty of square footage, parking, a food court and when school is done for the day, teenagers can do what they do best, SHOP! It would be an economic boon for the mall.

They could call it MALL High School and they could have a bear as there mascot, they of course would call themselves ‘The Maulers”
